Sometimes a healing sore itches more when its about to heal. There is also the possibility of a fungal infection, as you’ve figured out yourself.
If this goes on and gets worse and miconazole doesn’t help, you might suspect fur mites. (Fur mites don’t typically cause red skin though).
Fur mites is best treated with Revolution or Ivermectin.…[Read more]

Bam replied to the topic Small rabbit poops but getting bigger?? Cause for concern? in the forum DIET & CARE 5 years, 7 months ago
Hi!
Poops going from small to big is a good thing! The small poops probably came from the stress of travel. What we dont want to see is poops getting smaller and smaller, but in your case, it seems like she’s on her way back to having normal sized poops again.
As a rule it takes longer for poops to become perfectly formed again after a gut…[Read more]

Hi everyone,
My bunny Apple and I just finished our second (essential – no fun here!) road trip together. It was a long one, and she was a little spooked after. When she finally got settled at home and was up to hopping in her litter box, the first poops that came out were super small and deformed which I know can be a sign of stasis, but shortly…[Read more]

Bam replied to the topic Bunny WONT EAT after spay. HELP in the forum DIET & CARE 5 years, 7 months ago
You shouldn’t go to bed on her first night home without having seen her eat at least something. If you have access to any fresh herbs, (parsley, cilantro, mint, basil etc) that could help spark an appetite).
You can syringe feed pellet mush if you dont have critical care or other rescue formula. You can also make hay tea (steep hay in hot water,…[Read more]

kanin replied to the topic Homemade Rabbit Pellets in the forum DIET & CARE 5 years, 7 months ago
I and the buns love and highly recommend the Oxbow garden select pellets! There’s no molasses and soy fillers in them and the multiple types of grass hays as well as rosemary and thyme make them a healthy and appealing choice. I think they’re a little more expensive than other Oxbow options but it’s well worth it in my opinion.

Thanks for the reply and your advice pinkie!
We are right now switching their living spaces for a couple hrs Max even though we don’t live in the largest of abodes.
For example younger submissive male lives in kitchen where he free roams 24/7.
Older male lives in living room and shares it with female. They alternate between being in cage or…[Read more]

Time and patience, I’m afraid and she may always be more skittish than your other bun. It might help if you can sit on the floor by the rabbits and just ignore them. That usually works for me too get their attention and they start climbing all over me. It’s one of the main ways I bonded with them too-I just say quietly and let them investigate and…[Read more]

Hi! I recently got a pet bunny (named him Lucah, 3 month old Holland Lop) from a licensed breeder. I’ve only had him for about a week and a half now. A day later after I got him, I was petting his head and I felt some type of scab on the top of his head close to his left ear. I didn’t really think about it much since I didn’t see him itch it…[Read more]

Hmm… I don’t think so. At least not necessarily. Bacteria and yeast have different culture requirements. It also takes a long time to culture yeast. Someone can correct me if I’m wrong. LOL
If the swelling is really bad, you could try a steroid ointment to help get it down. It usually doesn’t take much. Like I said, steroids are best avoided in…[Read more]

We recently adopted a second bun as a companion to our first. Bonding went very well and in just over 3 weeks they had officially moved in together in a shared habitat (the same a pen at night but are free roam during the day). Our new bun seems absolutely smitten with her husbun but is so super skittish around all her humans still. It’s only b…[Read more]
