Moss is harmless. Just pick it out, no big deal. The bigger concern would be moisture in the hay, but I don’t think moss is necessarily a sign of that… simply that there was a cool shaded spot in the field where the moss could grow.

NalaBunny replied to the topic Bunny WONT EAT after spay. HELP in the forum DIET & CARE 5 years, 7 months ago
My rabbit was spayed a little bit ago and she didn’t eat for quite a bit so what I did was take pellet dust at the bottom of the bag and mix it with water and feed that to her. I just made sure she kept pooping, I also gave her a crap ton of treats and this helped her digestive system keep running.

Hi Dana, thank you so much for your reply… the thing about the molar trim is that he has already had them trimmed twice. He had them done the first week of November, and already needed one again the first week of January (he was refusing to eat again). The vet saw him again this week and said he is already starting to develop spurs again on some…[Read more]

I’m very sorry, that’s a very hard decision to be going through. 11 years is a wonderful life for a bunny, so congratulations on taking such good care of him so far!
One thing that jumped out to me is that every 2 months for molar trims is pretty frequent. Usually older buns teeth don’t grow as fast, so it’s possible that he might not need them…[Read more]

@Bam thanks! yeah I will definitely consider calling the vet if I’m worried about Sid :))) at the moment I’m not worried about him harming himself as I got his nail clipped when we went to the vets, and I haven’t seen any sort of redness or blood or sores. The scratching isn’t too invasive for him, either.  I have also been doing a lot of brainsto…[Read more]

I’m posting this hoping that people have some words of support, or have found themselves in similar situations. I have an elderly rabbit, 11 years, who is trucking long but has chronic health issues that at this point seem unsolvable. Due to his age his teeth have shifted and are no longer waring down correctly no matter what he eats, which would…[Read more]

Good suggestion! This is a useful trick also when they are stressed. I noticed when one of my rabbits was stressed he wouldn’t eat or drink for a while but would still munch on Kale. I also change their water 3x per day to keep it clean and fresh. It really does seem like they drink more when it’s cleanest. That is especially useful for a bun l…[Read more]

Susanne replied to the topic Homemade Rabbit Pellets in the forum DIET & CARE 5 years, 7 months ago
I may try the Garden Select next time I need to buy pellets, the ingredients do look better. I kinda want to take them off pellets, but they love them and I have one rabbit who won’t eat greens. I only give them 1/4 cup to split each day (they are both ~5lbs) but one eats much faster so I think he is getting most of that. I give the slow eater w…[Read more]

I have found moss in hay. I just picked it out. I dont think moss is toxic, but it probably doesn’t contain the nutrients a bun needs.

(The inch worm wasn’t on the moss, it was in my hay box from the last time I emptied it)

Thank you Wick! There was some kind of live tiny inch worm or something but I took it out. I was concerned about moisture too but it seems to be all dry. I think it should be okay. I just don’t want them to ingest any moss.

DanaNM replied to the topic New Bun is So Skittish! in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 5 years, 7 months ago
I agree with @pinkiemarie, time and patience unfortunately! Sometimes shy bunnies can learn from their bond-mate to be a bit more outgoing.
Floortime and hand-feeding are good strategies, along with not trying to pet just yet. But in the meantime, don’t be afraid to pop her on the table on a towel for grooming and nail trims. I think with shy…[Read more]
