Ooh yeah litter boxes are often a problem, I was thinking more of tunnels or other obstacles to help break up chases and line of sight when things get tense. I like using boxes with both ends opened up, so they are more of a short square tunnel.
They can be hit or miss though, as Wick said. Sometimes one bunny will claim a hide and get…[Read more]

rabbithabit started the topic Tear duct flush worth it? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 5 years, 7 months ago
I have an 8 year old rabbit. Her tear ducts are completely blocked and her eyes have been weeping. The vet is recommending a tear duct flush and x rays to check her teeth. However I am unconvinced it will be worth the distress to my bunny? She doesn’t seem to be in pain and since she is older I am worried about the general anesthesia. From looking…[Read more]

Hello and thank you for your replies. I do appreciate you getting back to me with any opinions.
Luna is doing ok once more, it’s emeprid that is given to her when this happens and it seems to do the trick in a matter of hours, she was cleared by the vets as fine and dandy and then we get her home and the next morning she is off her food. Instead…[Read more]

Wick & Fable replied to the topic Diet for babies in the forum DIET & CARE 5 years, 7 months ago
Personally, I do not know anybody nor read any experiences of alfalfa hay+pellets up to 6mo — typically it’s the one or the other you mention, or stopped earlier. That being said, I navigate rabbit forums where people post when something is wrong and often recommendations require potential modifications to what is “standard”.
I am not a vet, but…[Read more]

I know there’s lots of conflicting info out there on diet & care for rabbits, just wondering what your opinion is…
I’m in a few Facebook rabbit groups and people always say unlimited alfalfa hay, unlimited alfalfa pellets for babies until 6 months. However, I was also told that if they’re on alfalfa pellets, it’s okay to have them on timothy…[Read more]

Great news!!! The nose to nose pets are a great tool and worked well for me too. Keep us posted, hopefully Theo will give up on the chasing soon, but at least it’s not escalating to a fight!

whaaatmani started the topic Ear Mites? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 5 years, 7 months ago
My bunny Sawyer has been scratching his head and neck area more frequently and I’m thinking it might be an ear infection? I’ve looked up remedies and I saw oil is very helpful, so I was thinking of putting olive oil in his ears but say he doesn’t have an ear infection at all. Would the oil affect him negatively since there nothing to treat? I hope…[Read more]

I was going to suggest blood test, with as frequently as she has the episode I would be a little concerned about an ulcer. I had a bunny who kept getting gi stasis no explanation, turned out it was a gastric ulcer.
As to the spurs was she put under for it? In my experience the only way to really tell is a sedated exam and if you are going to do…[Read more]

Late last night I finally put my Frankie to rest. He was a couple months over 10 years old! He’d been blind for several years but over the last 6 months his cataracts had developed into glaucoma and he developed dental disease. My vet was helping with pain management and treating the dental disease as it came up, but yesterday he suddenly seemed…[Read more]

Peter'sOwner replied to the topic my rabbit is suddenly aggressive and biting in the forum BEHAVIOR 5 years, 7 months ago
I think we have figured out the behavior still not sure what to do about it though. It seems that Peter likes to pick items he likes to decorate his sleeping spots and even if it seems like a piece of trash he gets angry if you take it away or touch it.

Thank you both for the advice and I really needed the insight about what might be going through Clover’s head when she does that. After a lot of this it definitely gets easier to put it on her but he’s in the relationship too. And he’s very nice with her and has been for 6 months, but he used to be aggressive towards her so I should be more kind…[Read more]

Yes we need to start spreading proper rabbit care to everyone. Just two days ago I got a rabbit and they kept 5 baby bunnies in a small dog kennel outside with just a tarp over it while there was a blizzard happening it was crazy. I hate seeing situations like that.

So sorry this is happening.
I would get the spurs fixed as DanaNM recommended. However I wonder if she got them because she has not been eating properly…If you don’t do it already, I’d consider a good cold press pellet diet. I heard multiple times that it helps bunnies that are prone to GI stasis. When I swapped my buns to cold press pellets I…[Read more]

Thanks!
@Susanne – we did sleep with the bathroom door open (but blocked for the buns), and it actually went super well! We didn’t haven’t to break up any fights at all, only occasionally stepped in to stop Theo from mounting because it was getting a little much for Alfredo. He’s still chasing Alfredo a lot but Alfredo is just running, no more…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic Cat or Rabbits? (Comparison) in the forum THE LOUNGE 5 years, 7 months ago
Wick gave a pretty good run down! I have a cat and bunnies. Just like bunnies, all cats have different personalities, but as a rule cats are more cuddling (in terms of wanting to be on your lap). But my cat also is probably just using me for body heat. 😉
My feeling is that bunnies are more work than a cat, but still less than a dog. Some other…[Read more]
