Hi everyone!
I have a 5 year old female Dutch rabbit and have been considering adopting a 5 year old male American rabbit at a nearby shelter so she can have a companion. It says that he’s previously been in a pair but his partner has passed. I’m so torn on whether I should get him. My rabbit has never been socialized to other rabbits and I’m…[Read more]

Thanks Bam. I haven’t noticed any new poops since during the night. But those ones are dry and tiny, not perfectly sphere like. He had another wet one last night that was like a little sphere with a string coming out. I investigated and there was a bit of fur in it. It looked like he was peeing twice during the night but I felt the spot and d…[Read more]

Bam replied to the topic Raspberry and Blackberry twigs in the forum DIET & CARE 5 years, 7 months ago
I dont give my bun blackberry twigs because they have those very sharp thorns. The thorns are an adaptation that deters wild animals from eating the twigs. If you can shave them I think that is brilliant.
The types of raspberry we get where I am don’t have much in the way of thorns, at least not the more tender parts at the top of the plants.

Firstly, thank you for your detailed response, it was very helpful!
I gave him a tummy rub and some treats and he fell asleep. This morning when I let him out he seemed normal, he was doing binkies around the room, playing with his friend, and eating his leafy greens. I think he’s okay, but I will still bring him to the vet for a general…[Read more]

I dont think you need to do anything, just give him the full dose next time. How dors his poop look now?
I entirely missed that Emeraid comes in two herbivore versions. My guess is that the intensive care one is an excellent growth mediun for microbes, much like the agar-agar in petri dishes. This does not pose a problem if you feed it straight…[Read more]

I think I accidentally missed 0.1 ml of the cisapride from his mouth out of the 0.2ml he gets. I tried to wipe it off his chin and he licked a tiny bit off my finger. Is this okay? I have more the vet pre syringed for me but I’d want everything to be a full dose.
I chose to give him some oxbow critical care this dose. He’s been licking it but now…[Read more]

You’re welcome!
Bonding can be super stressful, especially marathoning. If you don’t feel like home is ideal, it’s also perfectly fine to give them a break overnight so you can get some sleep. Sometimes pushing forward in an environment that isn’t as ideal can make things harder. They honestly sound a lot like my bonding of Bun Jovi and Bertha…[Read more]

Hmm… For positive behaviors: cuddling (during the day), mutual grooming though mostly Alfredo being subservient, no fighting. Negative behaviors: Some food possessiveness from Theo, Theo chasing and mounting a lot while Alfredo runs away, the chasing episodes can last anywhere from a minute to seemingly the whole night – though Theo always gets…[Read more]

Bonding can be so many ups and downs! I’m happy to hear that it went well at the friend’s house, I would try to repeat that again if possible! And maybe see if you could sort out if a sleep-over would be possible. 😉
It’s a bummer they had some mounting etc. when you got home, but I’m interested to see how they do overnight. I’m sure that even a…[Read more]

Eek! So I took them over to a friend’s from noon to 9pm today, covering both their sleepy time and active time. She has two cats too, which seemed to help push the buns together even though the cats were very friendly (I made sure they couldn’t harm the rabbits or scare them). We put them in their x-pen, no litter box, and Theo started humping a…[Read more]

Like many people, when my rabbit vet recommends a treatment, I rush to see what the online consensus is. What I found about using children’s Benadryl with rabbits was sparse and generally negative, but weighing alternatives and having trust in my current rabbit vet, I went forward with the recommended treatment and wanted to share my ongoing…[Read more]

Some buns also like recovery food more if it’s mixed with some canned (unsweetened) pumpkin, so you could give that a shot as well.

My bunnies def have preferences for different types of recovery foods. The most popular is the Oxbow apple banana, but some of my buns like the sherwood recovery food more. And of course some buns hate them all! My stance is that which ever one is the easiest to get into them is the way to go (assuming you can get ahold of it). I wouldn’t worry…[Read more]

LBJ10 replied to the topic Pellets? in the forum DIET & CARE 5 years, 7 months ago
Pellets aren’t bad. I think the misconception comes from pellets that were formulated for meat, fur or show rabbits. These pellets are not meant to be nutritious, they are meant to fatten them up or to produce optimal coats. As pet rabbits became more popular, these types of pellets were the only ones available. Fast forward to the present and…[Read more]

I know this is kinda a controversy topic but I watched a video earlier saying that pellets are actually considered bad for rabbits but in the same breath the person said to give more veggies if you decide not to give pellets and another video said flat out that pellets are garbage for rabbits. So are pellets actually bad?

LBJ10 replied to the topic Complications after TECA-BO surgery in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 5 years, 7 months ago
My vet recommended GenTeal eye drops. They worked pretty well. I didn’t have to use them anymore after a while. Facial paralysis can affect everything on that side including the ear, eye, cheek, and lip.
I would feel horribly guilty too if things didn’t go well after a surgery. It’s hard not to beat yourself up about it. Just remember that you…[Read more]
