It is so so stressful caring for a sick bunny. I have found it helps to focus on the routine, and have my little checks at regular intervals to make sure things are stable or improving (like eating and pooping, grooming, other activity, etc.). It can help to keep notes, because it’s easy to lose track of gradual improvements.

    So for example, with…[Read more]

Yeah of course she has been always cuddly and wanting pets but not like that 😅

I’m really sensitive person so I always want to give her everything she wants even if I have to do other stuff, I hate this. It’s like I love her too much but I give her all my attention and my day just passes by.

Do you think spaying her at like 6 months is…[Read more]

Spaying will probably calm it down (especially the nipping) but she will still be friendly and want pets.

You will probably notice some fluctuations in the behaviors, because her hormones will be fluctuating until she is spayed.

Don’t worry about having to spoil her all day. She will be OK if she doesn’t get her way all the time!

I think a stronger pain med and full assessment by the vet would be my first order of business tomorrow. It’s very strange that they said they wouldn’t even look at his teeth… if they continue to refuse you might want to get a second opinion (or ask for another vet at the same clinic).

I can understand not wanting to do unnecessary procedures,…[Read more]

DanaNM Thanks, I’ve been worried every time I look at his nose while syringe feeding him. Yeah it is a very small amount but it makes me feel better. I also squeeze some on his chin accidentally a few times when doing it, so it prevents a bit of waste.

I could let him hop all the way over to me when I feed him soon. It just makes me feel bad b…[Read more]

He’s been prescribed loxicom 1.4 mls twice daily, but it doesn’t seem to gave touched the pain. Maybe my first point of call should be a stronger painkiller tomorrow? Hopefully then poor Stew will feel less stressed & more likely to poop? It’s heartbreaking feeling him trying to rest his sore spot comfortably while we’re trying to syringe feed…[Read more]

Really? But could it change literally over night? Like yesterday she was the same as always and today she is like that? 🤨

Should I give her more attention? Because you know I cannot sit all day around her and be with her haha I have stuff to do.

If she is spayed, she will be less like that?

Sounds like puberty. The nipping and following could mean she is feeling amorous. 😉

Hmmm, it does sound like something with his mouth. Can they prescribe a pain med? It could be that his teeth are sensitive from the filing and they just need some time to grow a bit.  Pain can actually cause gastric slow down, so even if the initial cause is pain, both the pain and tummy issues should be dealt with.

I wouldn’t be worried about staining, it’s probably from all the meds and syringe feeding. Your technique sounds great to me (I aim for the pocket between the incisors and molars), but I don’t think you need to give just .1 mL at a time… that seems like a tiny tiny amount to me. If it is working for you, great, but don’t feel like you need to…[Read more]

DDanaNM The Enrofloxacin is for the staphylococcus aureus on his chin. The vet thought it was from another animal or something he hit it against that broke the skin. He was moving around more before the Gi Stasis. But after that, once he hopped in the pen after being at the emergency vet, he barely moved that night. Yesterday I believe was when he…[Read more]

Please bear with me if this is long but I don’t want to miss any details out.

We have a bunny who we rescued aged about 1 year old. He’d come from a pretty poor living environment & had never been given hay. When he got to us we tried everything we could to get him to eat it, but he would have literally starved himself to death rather than eat…[Read more]

Hello, I need to know if this happened to anyone or someone knows whats “wrong”

My bunny is all cuddly, she naps a lot during the day.. she is a 4 months old bun, I’m going to spay her in maybe two months so idk if this behaviour has something to do with “puberty”..

She always sleeps from 1-5 pm but yesterday she didn’t sleep much, and today her…[Read more]

Eyes open doesn’t always mean the rabbit is awake. They can sleep with their eyes open, with the third eyelid as a translucent barrier that protects  against dehydration of the eyes. It looks scary, but it’s fully normal.

He may be laying in an unusual position due to pain or discomfort. If a bun has gas, you often see pressing of the tummy…[Read more]

I do wonder about his antibiotic… Does the vet think it was an abscess that ruptured? He might need a stronger antibiotic if things don’t resolve with the current one. With the wound closing up an abscess could form after the fact as well.  I know Enrofloxacin usually doesn’t do anything for abscesses, typically penicillin injections are the…[Read more]

    Poor guy 🙁

Bummer about the snow, I wasn’t sure where you were. In CA the grass is starting to come up now that we’ve had some rain.

DanaNM replied to the topic Baby bunny leaving cecals under the bed in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 5 years, 6 months ago

Agree. Baby bunnies do sometimes produce extra cecals, but they shouldn’t have fruit really, as they are still developing their gut flora and good eating habits (consider fruit like snickers bars to a bunny). At his age you could start slowly introducing greens. Romaine is usually a good starter green. You’ll want to make changes slowly to not…[Read more]

Agree with SweetB, the culprit is likely the fruit. I’d cut it out for now and see if that fixes it. As SweetB said, fruit should be an occcasional treat not an everyday thing. And even then just a small piece.
