Anywhere between 4-6 months is normal for spaying. Some vets like to wait till 6 months, especially if the bun is very small, so it’s really up to what your vet thinks.

I’m very sorry for your loss. She was truly beautiful!
As Dana says, you did the right thing, which proves you are a conscientious and loving bun owner. It’s so terribly unfair that you lost her.

Rabbits can handle temperature differences of 10 degrees Celsius/18 degrees Fahrenheit between inside and outside. If the difference is larger than that you will end up with respiratory problems, even pneumonia. I’m guessing your house is warmer than 12 degrees Celsius so taking him back and forth between the house and a garage that’s barely above…[Read more]

Wick & Hazel, thank you for confirming what we’re my suspicions. I was second guessing myself & thinking I was being unfair. Chatting with hubby today he was telling me what a big deal the vet made about how still Stew sat while she was doing the filing so I do suspect that’s the issue.
That said a different vet in the practise saw him today &…[Read more]

It sounds close to me! Hopefully they can both peacefully start using the litter box today. Keep us posted once you move them, I am curious how they do once moved to the permanent space. I could tell mine were ready when they seemed totally relaxed together (other than my one would show annoyance in a healthy way), ate close and jumped all on…[Read more]

I added the litter box a few hours ago, and it seems hopeful! I think Theo gets a little insecure with environmental changes so he chased a bit, but they’ve settled down, Alfredo groomed him and they both loafed together! I can’t impose on me and my roommate’s shared space for much longer (mhm… bunny poop in the dining room is not pleasant for…[Read more]

I had the same thought as Wick, he might have struggled and they accidentally caused an injury in his mouth. If so I imagine they already know that and that might be why they’re refusing to check him out. Whether they know or not, their refusal to help him would be enough reason for me to find a new vet. It’s ridiculous that they won’t even try.

I’m so sorry. 🙁 It is so heartbreaking when these things happen, and impossible to predict. You did the right thing by getting her spayed, even though it might not feel like it now. Anytime a bun has to go under anesthesia can be really scary, especially the first time. I volunteer at a rescue that does hundreds of spays a year, and rarely we…[Read more]

Usually when rescues do dating they have an experienced bonder chaperone, but I know sometimes things are different when it’s a shelter. One tip I’ve seen (but haven’t used myself) is to have a wire colander that you can stick between them if you are concerned about fighting. If the space is neutral, it is really rare for bunnies to just all-out…[Read more]

Hmmm, that’s tough. Can you give his primary vet a call? Maybe they could do a video conference where you film how he’s moving?
I’m concerned he might have an infection that his current antibiotics are not treating. It would also be helpful to take his temperature if you can.

Hey!
My rabbit had his molar spurs trimmed a little over a week ago. The vet gave him a pain medicine injection on his back. Now there is a scab there, it’s about 1,5-2cm big. It’s hard and dry, the skin around doesn’t seem irritated. I noticed that the site was swollen after the injection but the swelling went away quickly. Now there’s only…[Read more]

Hi buntbun,
I know this reply is really new and is was 2008 when you first experienced this… I was searching forums about this noise in experiencing with my rabbit Luna.
Basically… When she moves it seems like a part of her body, like neck or spine, or some joints are making this Unoiled creaking/rubbing sound. Really unique, as it’s not…[Read more]

Thank you both for your suggestions! I’ve been watching a lot of videos on how to bond rabbits and it seems do-able! I tried reaching out to the shelter to see if they could do an initial meeting and they just asked me if I’d ever bonded rabbits and that it “wasn’t like dogs meeting” which I understand. I just don’t want them immediately fighting…[Read more]

It’s been a week since the passing of my wonderful Madam. She now rests in a wooden urn on my dresser. She had no fear, no known health issues , and now she’s gone . I tried to do right by her by getting her spayed but she died when the vet tried to waked her up post surgery. She is like my child and I don’t know how to go on from this blow. She t…[Read more]

He just ate a couple pieces of hay, took a small sip of water (the first time I’ve seen since he got home from the emergency vet). He licked Pinky a couple times too. Maybe he’s just tired or I gave him too much Emeraid. I’m still really worried with how he’s moving and laying down.

I just gave him his lettuce and pellets and he wouldn’t hop over to me. He did it last night and yesterday morning. I’m really worried now. He only ate the lettuce and left the pellets. It took him a few seconds and he tried to crawl a few steps with his right foot tucked under him and using his chin a bit. He’s still laying crouched with his h…[Read more]
