Thank you for your response! He does have normal hair. I tried out the lint roller technique this morning to catch some of the loose hairs after brushing him with one of those rubber hand gloves and it definitely helped! 🙂 He does seem to drink quite a bit of water out of his bowl and I always wet his veggies for some extra moisture also. I will…[Read more]

I don’t think cardboard will work, as he could easily chew through it.
Some options could be picking up an exercise pen or dog crate from a pet store (sometimes thrift stores also have these for cheap). You could see if you could track down NIC cube grids in a store like target or walmart to make a pen. You could also get wire mesh from the…[Read more]

Agree with Bam, could be a number of things and bloodwork is usually the first step.

I agree with Dana, she has lost a lot of weight and unplanned substantial weight loss should always be investigated, both in humans and animals.
Several things could be the cause. Your vet will probably want to do bloodworks. Bloodworks is a very good diagnostic tool.

Hey everyone,
I’m getting my first bunny this weekend, but unfortunately the cage that I ordered for him from Amazon will be delayed by 1-2 days. He will have his own room, but what can I use as a temporary enclosure? Would cardboard boxes be enough? He’s 15 weeks old, if it matters.
Also, the cage that I got for him has no bottom (basically…[Read more]

Ok, I’ll have to make an appointment for her to go into the vet. I hope it’s nothing serious. Do you know what it could possibly be?

Agree with Bam. Also, how big is your bun? 1/2 cup of pellets is a lot of food, enough for a Flemish Giant even.

While it’s true there can be variability in weight between vet’s scales and home scales, I’ve never experienced it to be that much weight… usually it’s on the order of ounces difference.
She looks noticeable thinner now, and just from the photo I would consider that to be very underweight. 2.8 lbs is a huge loss for a bun that size (half of…[Read more]

I know someone I can borrow a kitchen scale from, I’ll try that. Back in July the vet said she was overweight and told me to cut back in the pellets. I don’t think she was extremely overweight, just pretty chunky. Thanks for the link!
This was her last night:

and this was her in July:

Thanks Hazel, I sure will get that second opinion.
And I also did think it was strange that the vet highly recommended the surgery as Ju has only gotten his first ear infection after 3 years of age. In saying this though, I am still thinking about the surgery to prevent future infections as much as possible. I’m just worried because it’s a big…[Read more]

Simethicone has always worked very well for me when Oscar had gas. I understand the vet doesn’t want to recommend something they don’t have a lot of data on, but I think that might be mainly for liability reasons.
I hope Muffin’s surgery goes well today, and hopefully that will turn things around and the cecum surgery won’t be necessary.

Did he eat kale before he started acting weird yesterday? That’s one that I believe can cause gas in some rabbits.

I dont think you need to worry. Since there are many normal poops and just a few that are slightly off, this is not diarrhoea. It is a slight tummy upset. It could’ve been the apple slice, or maybe if he got a bigger than usual helping of greens?
I’d not give any fruit for a few days, and then I’d give only half an apple slice. Hay is the classic…[Read more]

hi everyone! My bunny has been eating normally and is active, doesn’t seem ill, just scratching his ears from ear mites, He has vet appointment for early March (2nd ish)
I checked on him after spending the night alone and saw this… I looked inside the litter box and saw LOADS of dry pellet like poops, but around three of them were wet and d…[Read more]

It is fairly difficult to get an accurate reading on normal human scales becausw a bun weighs so comparatively little. I dont know if you could perhaps borrow scales from someone or buy one, they dont have to be expensive. I put my bun in a bowl and weigh him on digital kitchen scales. It’s safest to do it on the floor in case the bun decides to…[Read more]

I forgot to add that I was giving her alfalfa pellets (I thought they were Timothy) until about November, then I switched to Timothy. So maybe she was only over weight due to the fattening alfalfa pellets?
