Hey all,
I appreciate the concern over not just assuming its an allergy. I promise I’m not. And the Vet in addition to doing the examine/swabbing for infections, is taking my word on his behavior. The thing about all of it, is there isn’t really a progression of symptom severity.
He started sneezing a couple months ago. He has a little clear…[Read more]

Wick & Fable replied to the topic Chewing Carpet CONSTANTLY in the forum BEHAVIOR 5 years, 6 months ago
You mention he has chew toys, but he is not touching them, which tells me he doesn’t see them as chew toys. I would suggest finding what toys work for him. My carpet chewer enjoys fleece blankets she can toss and pull against (I clip them to something so her can continuously pull and dig at it with resistance). With fleece, you just want to make…[Read more]

Hello! I have a male rabbit who is about 1 year old. I just got him to bond with the girl that I have had for a year. At first, I kept him confined while I wasn’t home because he was not yet litter trained. Now he is litter trained and I wanted him to be free range, but I have found several spots where he has chewed through the carpet and created…[Read more]

Two of my rabbits will occasionally go through a couple weeks of sneezing fits with either no discharge or only clear snot. I think they just have some allergies and it may be to something that is sometimes in some batches of hay but I’m not totally sure. I’ve had them at the vet for nail trims several times when they’ve been having three episodes…[Read more]

I agree with Wick. I would exhaust other possibilities first before deciding it is “just an allergy”. Unfortunately, allergies are a process of elimination diagnosis in rabbits. If he hasn’t been given a broad-spectrum antibiotic yet to see if it clears up the problem, I would start there. Sometimes a URI can be way up in there and the bacteria…[Read more]

Bam replied to the topic Styrofoam warning!! in the forum DIET & CARE 5 years, 6 months ago
A specialist vet might suggest flushing of the GI tract to get rid of partial blockages that, in your case, could consist of styrofoam.
There is also the possibility that the styrofoam episode has been so taxing foe the immune system that opportunistic microorganisms have seized the chance to proliferate and thrive. Typical culprits would be…[Read more]

LBJ10 replied to the topic HELP: sludge or calcium? in the forum DIET & CARE 5 years, 6 months ago
What he’s on is fine for now. Since he’s 5 months old, it wouldn’t hurt to start trying to transition to grass hay. The calcium in his urine really isn’t concerning though. As the others pointed out, calcium deposits are normal and the amount you are seeing right now is likely the result of his “young bunny” diet.

How often are the sneezes now and is there any discharge? If it has been a couple months, I’m curious what the progression of symptom severity has been like as well.
Admittedly, due to my first vet, I am suspect of the validity of swabs. Can a swab reach where the infection may actually be, especially in early stages, and what is the possibility…[Read more]

Thank you for the healing vibes everyone! One of the buns, Teddy, has made a full recovery, he’s pooping normally again, and back to himself yay!!
Unfortunately, the other bun, Dusty, is doing worse. She is pooping more regularly, although a totally different color than normal (she usually has dark brown pooping, and now light brown/tan) and…[Read more]

It’s great to hear you are picking up on some patterns, and it sounds like they are too. Learning to navigate each others “quirks” is important. It sounds like you’ve gotten a handle of assessing how things are progressing!

^A couple pictures from the ADORABLE couple. They are squished so close!!
Update – so it’s been 3 days since the last update, and they are doing alright. Theo still gets the urge to mount at night/in the morning, but they seem to be getting along well outside those times. Alfredo is not allowing the mounts, he just runs away but never gets…[Read more]

Hay is the most important food, so its really great that he’s eating that!
He probably just feels insecure in his new environment. As Pinkiemarie says, try to keep his environment reasonably quiet these next few days, and he will most likely start to eat more! You can absolutely talk and play some music for him, but obviously avoid for example…[Read more]

Good point, @pinkiemarie! Rabbit pee can certainly come in a rainbow of colors. Carrots, dandelion and several other plants will color the pee bright orange to red, which can be scary the first few times you see it. It’s perfectly normal though.
Rabbit pee should never be completely clear. Rabbits are peculiar in that they, contrary to most other…[Read more]

Oh good! Try to keep the house quiet and calm for the next few days while he continues setting in and I’m sure he’ll start eating even more.

Update: He has started eating some more hay and is getting more confident. I don’t have the same pellets from the breeder. He hasn’t eaten any of the veggies but is eating hay. He is 4 months old.

Bam replied to the topic RHD and Bleach in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 5 years, 6 months ago
RHD can travel fairly long distances with birds – either with ticks (birds can have many ticks) or in the bird’s gut after the bird has eaten an infected rabbit or hare. Then the bird poops, flies feast on the poop and the flies travel with the winds. Where I am, RVHD2 has been discovered on rather remote islands with no human inhabitants. It is…[Read more]
