One of my rabbits is scared of cooking noises and smells. It’s something that hasn’t gone away in over a year, but it has lessened.

I’m glad you have figured out the cause!

I do think she could get used to cooking smells with time. The fear is instinctive, but with time, when nothing bad happens in conjunction with the smell, its reasonable to think that she will become desensitised to it. Its not practical for animals (or humans) to freak out at everyday things, so…[Read more]

That makes sense to me, my Elmer HATES the sound of me eating and I guess some smells too. If I start chewing (especially crunching food) near him he starts running around thumping. Luckily he isn’t in the room I eat so I don’t eat when I’m around him.

Okay, I feed my bunny pellets in the morning with some veggies. She doesn’t bother even touching the hay. I only give her access to pellets once in the morning that’s all

Hi, thank you for your answer! 🙂 Turns out it is smells of our food at dinner time which scares her and it is nothing to do with me or the door!

Thank you so much for your message it helped reassure me and I took your advice, but turns out it wasn’t me who was the problem after all. She is only afraid when I open the door after we have been cooking in the Kitchen. The smells of our dinner is what frightens her. It is sad to see her get so scared every single dinner time.

Hi, thank you so much for your answer. I discovered it wasn’t me, or the squeak of the door or the reflection but the smell of our food at dinner time. Whenever we have cooked in the Kitchen and then open the door to bring our meals in, that’s when she freaks out. I wish she wouldn’t be so scared every time.

Hi, thank you so much for such a detailed answer, it really helped me and gave me reassurance that I am not a bad bun mum. But actually, I discovered that it wasn’t me. But it is the smell of food. When ever I enter the room, nothing happens, unless there is food cooking in the kitchen. I wish she was not so afraid of food because we eat the food…[Read more]

Thanks for responding! Yes, I have been monitoring him and he’s been the exact same as pre-fall, perky and happy. I checked his teeth and they seem fine, as well as his face, chest, chin, ears, and nose. I also do let him out on his own, usually, but the way the room is arranged and how the pen opens makes it difficult to still block out the…[Read more]

Rabbits can purr quite loudly when they feel very good and relaxed, for example when you pet them. I had a bun whose purring could be heard across a room!

When a bun tooth grinds from pain, there are other signs of discomfort as well. The rabbit won’t eat, it tries to hide away, it is highly reluctant to move away from a “safe” spot.

    Tummy…[Read more]

Here is my precious , scrumptious, and glomp-worthy little boy. His name is Sir Henry Fuzzy Bottoms and I rescued him from the Humane Society in 2015. At the time they had him labeled as a Jersey Wooly, Male, 2 years old. This Feb of 2021 he turned 8 years old! Henry was the first rabbit I’ve had experience with and I sort of went in blind XD. I…[Read more]

I second LBJ. Rabbits are often taken from the mother at age 6 weeks, but kept together with their siblings for 2 more weeks. At 6 weeks they are weaned and eat solid food. Since you are adopting 2 rabbits, they will have each other, which is very good for them.

Very young rabbits have more delicate GI systems than adult rabbits, because their GI…[Read more]

    Hi again,

    Thank you for your responses!

I’m very glad he seems happy or at the least comfortable to you! Both of my rabbits do this same type of binky, I just wasn’t sure if it was a sign of distress or happiness or other.

I love watching him when he’s like that. He is adorable and funny 🙂 (sometimes it’s hard to sleep when they’re both…[Read more]

    Sorry that it was confusing.

Willow does not fight with either of them and therefore, she has her play time with both of them at separate times.  She has bonded with both of them.  Honey and Pearl had a falling out about a month after all three were spayed, last September.  Honey and Pearl have been separated since then, but their housing is ne…[Read more]
