Yeah, I’ll let her get settled in, and maybe adopted 🙂

Ooh yeah, that’s no time at all, especially considering her history. I’m sure she’ll come around.

I feel you! My newest bunny Cooper is a wild man, I had slightly forgotten what it was like to have a high-energy young bunny, it can be a LOT of energy!
I agree with LBJ10’s suggestions, phone books and newspapers are safe, as long as they aren’t the glossy sheets.
I also would for sure swap out the carpet flooring in her pen for something like…[Read more]

I agree with others about growing up, but I will also say that if you have to pick her up every day to return her to her pen, that will likely harm your relationship eventually.
It’s best to only pick up buns when needed for nail trims, deep grooming, etc. Since she’s growing up, she could be starting to get annoyed that when you pick her up, it…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic New bunny family with some turmoil 😳 in the forum BEHAVIOR 5 years, 7 months ago
Agree that is so frustrating that you were mis-lead! It unfortunately happens too often.
I think since hormones are at play already, it is best to not do any playdates until everyone is neutered and hormones settled. Any fighting and aggression can make bonding harder later.
But, if you have them live side by side as neighbors, they won’t forget…[Read more]

That sounds like a good plan, as long as it’s not too close to her pen. How long have you had her?

I’m still having a very hard time with this loss. Thanks for your very kind words.
Valentine’s day came and I have just been in an ocean of tears. We had lost Heartly’s (my little light) beloved big brother (Hatter) on that day last year. The time between losing them was only eleven months. I’m still dealing with my grief from that too.
The…[Read more]

Let us know how it goes!
I also find it helps to set short time goals for the first few sessions, so I don’t push things too far. So you can aim for 5 minutes for a few sessions, just to get a sense as to how they are in the new space. I also like to pet a lot in the beginning, so when they come nose to nose, you can pet both to mimic grooming.…[Read more]

@Susanne I’m sorry to hear about your kitty. 😥 Both of ours came within an inch of death with intussusceptions. They only survived because our vet is incredibly skilled and went above and beyond to save them. Some vets are amazing, others not so much.

Thank You! I’ve been trying to just, quietly, sit outside of her play pen so that she gets used to my presence.

Awwww Penelope, she’s so cute and angry!
My recent foster-fail Bonnie was the same way. She was very cage aggressive after being in the shelter for 3 years, poor thing.
What I did with her was I made sure she had her own space (a pen) that I didn’t mess with. For the first week or so, I only feed her, but didn’t try to pet her or anything. I…[Read more]

Hello! I’m fostering this rabbit named Penelope, her past owner was neglecting her, leaving her out in a tiny cage in below freezing temperatures, so somebody called animal control. That’s how she came to the shelter. I’ve been trying to get her used to humans, but she growls and lunges with her claws. Is there anyway to fix this?

I’m sorry for what happened to your other bun. I agree it could be ring worm. Can you post a pic?
The litter box setup might be OK, but how wet does it get? It might need to be changed more frequently (try to clean it before she starts avoiding it).
I would focus on keeping her environment very clean, soft, and dry. So you can put down fleece…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic Contradicting veggie options in the forum DIET & CARE 5 years, 7 months ago
The main things to look out for are oxalate content and (sometimes) calcium. Most bunnies can handle lots of calcium, but some need a lower calcium diet, as Bam said, so really you mostly want to look out for oxalate.
Any veggie that is both low in calcium AND low in oxalate could be fed as much as you want. Some examples of this off the top of…[Read more]
