I use a waterproof vinyl tablecloth to cover the floor inside my x-pen-type enclosure. The tablecloth is bigger than the enclosure so the bun can’t pull at the edges and create a mess. I place fleece blankets on top of the tablecloth to make the area cosy and bun-friendly. If your bun isn’t litter trained yet, it’s good to place puppy pee pads…[Read more]

I agree that if it’s for the weekend, it’s probably easier just to take her. Would they be OK if you brought an x-pen to give her a bit more space?

    I’m glad to hear it!

You give 1-2 ml of simethicone every hour for 3 hours, but most rabbits show improvement sooner. If you’re lucky you can sometimes even get to hear your bun fart! 😃

Simethicone is not taken up by the body, it just acts locally in the GI canal and then it is pooped out. For this reason it’d be very difficult to overdose it…[Read more]

If you have reasonably big cage (a carrier won’t be big enough), and if she can be located in a room free from other pets (dogs, most importantly), I think it’s best if she comes with you.

I have brought my free roam buns with me for New Year’s etc. I have a collapsible enclosure.

Thank you for the detailed reply! For the rest of the day since I’ve posted this, Toasty has been chipper as always and has eaten a lot. I went ahead and brushed him, plucked his fur, vacuumed, and spent some extra time with him to monitor him. I also told my mom about baby gas drops, and she says we might have some left over from many years ago,…[Read more]

    Hello,

I was wondering if anyone had any experience taking their free roam bunny on vacation with them?

I have a 12 week old bunny who is well liter trained and is completely free roam in my apartment.
I am planning on visiting my boyfriend’s family for the weekend and don’t want to leave her in a lodge and don’t have a friend that I would…[Read more]

Here is an article that documents 2 cases: https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.1177/1040638714545111

    Also in the article:

“Considering rabbits’ susceptibility to experimental HHV encephalitis, high prevalence of disease in people, and the popularity of domestic rabbits as pets and laboratory animals, a higher incidence of spontaneous d…[Read more]

First of all… breathe. I know this is causing you a lot anxiety, but try not to freak out. Rabbits are susceptible to Herpes simplex 1. But here is the important part – This is in a lab controlled setting. Naturally occurring infections (human to rabbit transmission) have been documented, but they are extremely rare. Think about how common cold…[Read more]

The double negative totally makes sense.. I used to pick her up rarely to get her back in the pen and that I stopped after she started acting aloof (fridge episode).

Using only the luring technique with some treats so she gets happy to be in her pen 🙂 She was getting back to almost normal last week and then the vaccine appointment came up…[Read more]

Wick & Fable replied to the topic How long after neutering do bathroom habits improve? in the forum BEHAVIOR 5 years, 5 months ago

I will also mention that neutering a rabbit does not guarantee he will come to be a perfect litterbox rabbit. My male rabbit is still pretty bad at litterbox habits, as a part of his personality and how he expresses frustration… you may need to do some training, as it may not automatically happen nor may not; however, being neutered does…[Read more]

At this point, aside from vet assessment, all you can probably do is just monitor. While I know it is hard and easier said than done, but remember overwhelming yourself with stress and anxiety is not helpful for yourself or your rabbit at this time. I think raising awareness is really important, as I was not aware of this.

I’m sorry, this must be so stressful. 🙁  Don’t blame yourself, it could have happened to anyone. I don’t have any helpful info for you unfortunately, but I hope your bun will be fine. Please let us know what the vet says.

There’s no exotic doctors available in my state currently all I can do is leave a message for when they come back. I’m insanely worried and I’m shaking. I found out the human virus can be deadly to rabbits. I never knew this information! Out of all my years of owning rabbits no one has ever told me to not kiss my rabbit (on the head and nose)…[Read more]
