It sounds very good! With things like a UTI, its often difficult to see when the abx take effect – it can be effeciacious in killing the bacteria just as it should, but there can still be some lingering irritation, which just needs time to heal. (Much like when we can cough for a long time after a chest cold, even though the causative virus or…[Read more]

Hi, I don’t notify folks if I use their pix usually. Thanks for continuing to respond. I haven’t been using the forums to select pix since the website was rebuilt over the last year or so, but it may be a good time to start again. If so, we can have a pix post in the Lounge. I think I’ll ask that you state in your post if binkybunny can use it.…[Read more]

RabbitPam replied to the topic Dealing with anticipatory grief: grieving for your pet who's still alive in the forum RAINBOW BRIDGE 5 years, 5 months ago

I have those feelings as well, and it was more pronounced with my first bunny who lost the use of his back legs for about a year before he passed. We had new rituals of care that made him comfortable but it’s hard, and I often check on breathing (ie wake up Spike when he’s resting in his tent). These feelings are natural.

I guess one thing I’ve…[Read more]

Hi again, it’s been a week and despite saying I had a feeling small space bonding for Betty and Herman was perhaps a problem, I tried it again.

Here’s the reason and the outcome:

Last week I had a phone call with a volunteer from a rabbit shelter. They advised me to stick with the small space, they have a high success rate with it. However, they…[Read more]

Bam replied to the topic Excess calcium: carrot tops may have more calcium than we expected in the forum DIET & CARE 5 years, 5 months ago

Wonderful discovery, thank you for the warning! Many rabbits cope well with calcium-rich greens, but others don’t – and it’s of course especially important to be extra vigilant with buns who are getting on a bit in years ☺

Myb bun Bam was forbidden calcium- rich greens by his rabbit vet, due to high blood calcium. We barely ever get carrot tops…[Read more]

Thanks guys for these responses. Things have gotten a little better. Hotot – I’m sorry to hear about your health experience, and I hope you’ve fully recovered. I think you might be spot on with your suggestion. Over the last few days I’ve realized this might be an olfactory issue I’m dealing with, related to some GI issues I deal with. It happened…[Read more]

    Another update:

Bunbun has been much more himself today! Last night after I posted he ran straight to his greens and ate them, but still seemed to feel crummy off and on. Tonight he avoided his greens for ~10 minutes, then ate them all up. He was also much more snuggly and didn’t seem to be as miserable as he’s been. He’s not spending as much t…[Read more]

But now he wants to be outside at night. My bunny gnaws the night fence and makes noise. I cant sleep, please help mee… I add the picture of the living…[Read more]

Have you had covid-19? Menopause? This sounds like an olfactory issue to me. Or, a cat lived in your home previously and the cleaning is reactivating the odor. One of the lasting effects of covid-19 for me has been olfactory hallucination.  I lost my sense of smell and taste. It wasn’t so bad since menopause has made me extremely sensitive to…[Read more]

People who have buns struggling with bladder sludge or excess calcium: carrot tops just may contain more calcium than we thought. If you’ve excluded medical problems and eliminated all other suspected foods but nothing worked, try to eliminate carrot tops.

We always gave it as a daily veg because we thought it to be low in calcium. A couple of…[Read more]

If you can’t get rid of the smell with everything you’ve already tried: check her glands. Rabbits have scent glands which are near their anal opening, they’re about the size of a nostril and are on each side. Bunnies can smell really awful if their scent glands are clogged. Breintje needs his cleaned several times a year because the wax builds up…[Read more]
