If no bun is injured then keep going! Those types of little issues are actually important to find because buns can get spooked in normal life, and in a bonded pair they should run to each other for comfort and not have it start a fight. It does sound like you are making progress so keep up the good work!

My interpretation was that there are wild rabbits but feral domestic cats, so I was thinking trapping the cats would help the buns.

The first audio sounds like my vocal bun Vilde. He used to make it while he was happily running across the floor. That sound seemed to come from deep within him, so to speak, not the nose or lungs.
The only things I can think for a vet trip of would be to get him to associate the carrier with nice things, which means food. Since treats shouldnt…[Read more]

thanks for responding. they dont get worse when he wants a treat, but now that you mention all that, i have noticed his honks are a bit funky lately… theyve gotten louder or quieter at different periods of his life, so I didnt think of it being related/important.
i cant seem to get the wheezing/breathing on audio, one bc my phone sucks and two…[Read more]

thank you for responding. my reply this morning got deleted by a site error but ill try to rewrite it the same:
the noises dont get worse when hes excited, or even happen at all unless he’s splooted/sittin in his spot. but now that you mention it, his honks have sounded a bit unusual lately. i just kinda chalked it up to getting older, as his…[Read more]

Yes, it is hard to say. Typically though, a wheezing sound while breathing is caused by an obstruction in the airway. In rabbits, this tends to be an infection in the upper or lower airway. Dwarf rabbits are more prone to having sinus issues. All of the structures are smooshed, creating places where bacteria and mucus to accumulate, leading to an…[Read more]

This is obviously difficult to say something definite about, but the squeeky wheezy sounds dios remind me of when my bun Bam had a lower airway infection (light form of pneumonia). He could have got it from choking on a pellet -the acute situation was dealt with swiftly when it happened, and the pneuomonia only manifested months later.
A lung…[Read more]

Context: 7 yr old lionhead dwarf rabbit, free-roam in bunny proofed area (courtesy this site), male with shots but never fixed. (sry for oversharing i just want to touch all bases..)
Issue: recently, while at rest (usually splooted) he’ll make this weird kind of squeaky sound with each exhale, a bit like a wheeze possibly? this weird breaths…[Read more]

LBJ10 replied to the topic Cannot diagnose!! Any advice please in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 1 year, 11 months ago
Any update on this? I apologize, my initial response was on my phone. I do think that if you’re not getting answers from your vet, then it may be time for a second opinion. There are things that can be done without definitive diagnosis. Sometimes you just have to go by the symptoms and see if the treatment helps. In the case of EC, giving a bunny…[Read more]

Is there any effort to try to trap these rabbits? Living in the “wild” is a hard life for domestic rabbits.
I agree with Dana that it may be difficult to build a shelter that can keep cats out. The opening would need to be big enough for a bunny, but too small for a cat. Getting the size right would depend on the animals involved. If their head…[Read more]

It’s always good to have a shelter/tunnel for rabbits, as they do indeed enjoy their hidey-holes!
Since this is an old thread, you’re unlikely to get contributions from the original posters @Deezle, so I will be locking it; however, feel free to comment to any more active/recent threads, as well as create your own topics!

My little girl loves to shred a bed. As long as they have some kind of shelter/tunnel to snuggle together out of drafts, they will probably be fine.

If neither are in need of immediate attention (i.e., soaked that you need to dry them well w/ a towel), I’d keep the session going a bit so it doesn’t end w/ a stressful encounter association.

I am almost 4 hours into a bonding session that has been amazing both snuggling and grooming now. However a decoration fell and landed in one of the buns and he ran to the corner his brother was in and the water bowl flipped and soaked both of them and the ran and got in a scuffle. I stopped it and pet them together for a min and then one ran to…[Read more]

I’m about 4 hours in this session and they have been snuggling and grooming each other and eating together using both litter boxes without issues. Just a couple minutes ago a decoration fell on one of the buns (didn’t hurt, just scared him bad) he ran to the corner his brother was in and it startled him and made the water bowl fly and soak the…[Read more]

This is a very nice idea, but based in my own cats and bunnies, this would be challenging to do. Cats can squeeze into anything they can fit their head into.
