Here is a picture of it. The scab (there is actually more than one just smaller) is covered by the fur but it is pretty much right in the middle and this is kinda bad lighting as it was taken at night but it looks redder and more angry in person.

that is what I was thinking too. I will bring the protocol to my vet tomorrow and speak with her about possible treatment options. She wasn’t able to fit me in due to a packed scedule but still wanted to see him so I will be dropping him off and the doctor can see him when she gets the chance.

Thank you @jerseybunnies !  I was able to find the email last night and she did email me back . Apparently there is a shortage of bicillin, but she said i can use PenG procaine as a substitute and inject everyday.

Pellets are often the last thing to come back when a bun starts getting its appetite back. Seems they know what’s best for them (hay!). 🙂

I can’t really tell from the picture, but I agree if you have concerns about the safety of the alfalfa, it’s fine to switch to 100% grass. Buns don’t usually have as many issues switching hays as they do with pellets or veggies. It’s normal to worry a lot about our bunnies, because we love them so much! Once you get a better sense of what is “normal” for your bunny, you will worry less.

To my knowledge, Baytril won’t penetrate an abscess. I treated my bunny Moose’s jaw abscess with sub-cutaneous penicillin injections, I had to give them at home every other day for 6 weeks. He handled them very well, and I found them easy to give once I got the hang of it (easier than syringe feeding, if I’m honest).

Scabs are not uncommon. Swelling could be from him picking at the area.

Unfortunately, I do not have Marcy Rosenfield’s email nor have I experienced something similar.

Keep an eye on his poop. (Just so you see that he keeps producing poop). If you suspect some minor gastric upset, you can give him 1 ml of simethicone baby gas drops. You can give him 1 ml every hour for 3 hours, then more infrequently. Simethicone is not taken up by the body, it just comes out with the poop.
