Jadeo09 replied to the topic Can't chew Hay, but vet says teeth look fine? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 5 years, 4 months ago
I had this problem once. It turned out it was her teeth in the end. She ended up very poorly before they finally put her under anesthetic to check for spurs. If you can get a few different hays 3rd cut Timothy hay or dried grass like readigrass and they still wont eat it I would inform your vet they still wont eat hay. Im sure they will do a more…[Read more]

Glad to hear you rabbit is eating. That’s the best thing for stasis. You can give more simethicone if necessary. You cant really overdose as it doesnt leave the stomach or go into the bloodstream. We gave our rabbit 1ml every few hours when she was very bad until the gas decreased and then 1ml every 8-12 as maintenance for a few days to be on the…[Read more]

LBJ10 replied to the topic My rabbit's ear has been droopy (on and off) for like 5 days. Is that normal? in the forum BEHAVIOR 5 years, 4 months ago
Sometimes stuff gets mixed in there, even with “pure bred” bunnies. I agree that it looks like some lop is in there. Bunnies with a little bit of lop can usually control their ears, but may allow one or both to lop when they don’t feel like holding them up.

LBJ10 replied to the topic How to make my rabbit sleep on my desk? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 5 years, 4 months ago
So true Dana. Bunnies and desks are usually a bad combination. LOL
Perhaps some pet stairs? Honestly though, if your bunny doesn’t want to go up there, you can’t really make them.

I didn’t know FOS can cause digestive upsets. As I was using bebebac which contains FOS to feed her healthy bacteria? I may reduce the dosage and see it that helps maybe? What do you think?
I was also going to feed her small amount of the hay, that she cant digest, each day and increase it after each week. In the hope that her bacteria and…[Read more]

It is amazing isnt it! Lots of foods and probiotics marketed for horses are the same as the rabbit versions but much better value. Herbs, hay and probiotics and even metacam!

Azerane replied to the topic A question about when I should neuter him in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 5 years, 4 months ago
Unless he’s a super tiny bun like a Netherland Dwarf that could benefit from the extra growth weight for surgery, I’d be getting him done now, 5 months is safe. Better to avoid those behaviours.

The snuggle safe was a hit, I found Luna curled around it this morning. Very pleased that it works as long as it states. I heated it up at 8pm, it says it stays warm for 10 hours, I checked it at 6:15pm and could still feel some heat from it. Amazing product.

Here’s a full list with high oxalate veggies (group I) for future reference: https://binkybunny.com/bunnyinfo/veggie-list/
In general, a high oxalate veg shouldn’t be more than 30% of the daily veg, and rotate the one you feed each week.
The commonly fed veggies that are high oxalate are parsley, chard, beet greens, spinach.

Nope, that 5 days won’t make a difference. If he’s acting super hormonal and he’s “dropped” then I think he’s definitely ready for the snip!

I don’t think it’s possible to make a bunny sleep where they don’t want to. They are very opinionated LOL
In my experience, putting a bunny somewhere usually doesn’t make them feel safe in that area, and each bun has preferences on where they like to sleep. Most bunnies like to sleep in hides or other sheltered places, but some do like to climb…[Read more]

Gotcha! Yeah I’m guessing it’s because of the shirt. As long as she is behaving normally otherwise I wouldn’t worry about it. 🙂 I’m guessing the shirt is much more comfortable than a cone!

Oh hey, those are familiar terms from my time as a researcher! FOS are free organic acids which are the first breakdown products of certain bacteria in the gut. We often used manure in bioreactors to research the biodegradability of waste streams.
And now that you mentioned it Dana: cows, horses and rabbits are all specialists at getting all the…[Read more]

I agree the safe veg lists online are very confusing. One thing my vet told me is that generally if it is safe for a horse to eat, it is safe for a rabbit and I found the info was easier to find (this may be helpful too if he ever eats a plant he shouldn’t). The rabbit society is pretty good though and you have the bonus of it going more in depth…[Read more]

New behaviors based on hormones can appear/fluctuate any day, but objectively, there’s no medically-informed difference between 5 days versus waiting until he is 5mo. Nothing magical happens at 5 months old. In fact, some rabbits have been neutered as early as 12 weeks old.
