ivey_air started the topic Unexpected death in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 5 years, 4 months ago
Last night I went to the basement to check on out bunnies and one of out 3 year old indoor mini rex was dead. She was still warm. There was a small puddle of blood on the floor. So I went to examine her to see if there was an injury and when I picked her up blood gushed out of her butt. She is intact so I am thinking something with her…[Read more]

Aww I love plovers! I used to live right next to a snowy plover breeding area. Seeing a little chick on the beach was amazing. Such cute little cotton balls!
When I lived in New Zealand we went to Stewart Island, which has no invasive mammals (incl dogs or cats) on it, and it was amazing because there were just shore birds nesting on the beach…[Read more]

Agree about Revolution being the main one.
You could also ask your vet about Vectra 3d. (http://www.vgr1.com/vectra3d/)
It’s an off label use in rabbits that is not was widely used. The main vet for our rescue has been using it on the shelter rabbits for years with no ill effects. But it should definitely be dosed by your vet because there is a…[Read more]

Hmmm, I’ve seen fur mites show up in that location first on non-lop buns. But usually the skin looks a little flakey. You could see about treating him with Revolution just as a precaution and see if that helps?

DanaNM replied to the topic Good pellet brand suggestions? in the forum DIET & CARE 5 years, 4 months ago
There are lots of good brands out there these days. I’ve fed both Oxbow adult essentials and Sherwood timothy, and my bunnies did well on both. I’ve also heard good things about Science Selective but haven’t fed them myself, other than as a training treat (the nuggets are a bigger size so they are nice for training). I like to compare labels. The…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic Drinking a lot of water in the forum DIET & CARE 5 years, 4 months ago
Well, eating a lot of hay will make a bun drink more water. I do think it wouldn’t hurt to call the vet though.
The fact that it is a big change from what you are used to means it’s prob worth looking into. And 2 cups in 11 hours is a lot.

DanaNM replied to the topic Urinary issues in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 5 years, 4 months ago
Ruling out a urinary issue is important, and I also had a bunny with dental issues that had very bad box habits. Sometimes being in pain is enough to cause them to not care about going to the box. So it might be worth having his teeth checked if he has any other symptoms of a dental issue, esp since he’s a dwarf breed.
Sometimes it seems like…[Read more]

Wick & Fable replied to the topic Pellets or veggies-excess cecotropes in the forum DIET & CARE 5 years, 4 months ago
Excess cecotropes aren’t inherently an issue, unless it starts smearing and causing a mess. I suspect once your rabbit is on a more stable diet, it will settle down.
Have you seen your rabbit successfully eat cecotropes? There’s also the chance there is a movement-related difficulty in actually reaching down to eat cecotropes.

I use a brand of simethicone called Infacol. Brand names vary from country to country.
It’s a good idea to clean out the litterbox so you can keep track of how much he poops and pees.
If he doesnt want you to give him a massage, dont. Sometimes when buns have gas, they like getting a tummy massage.

Thank you Wick. I’m going to try adult pellets in about two weeks. But if the cecotropes come back, should I stop immediately or give them some time to adjust to it? I’m pretty sure they are normal formed cecotropes. We’ve visited vet twice and also did a stool analysis. The previous owner gave them a lot of dry mix before and there were even c…[Read more]

Also what brand of baby drops do you recommend? I see any and I’m not sure what would be the best for him. If I do the massage will I still have to buy the gas drops? I actually tried to do the massage but he kept moving around and it seemed like he wanted to move away from me idk if he’s uncomfortable me doing that but.. yeah. Let me know! Oh a…[Read more]

kanin started the topic Currently dealing with some sort of fly infestation in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 5 years, 4 months ago
We’ve been keeping the doors and windows open a lot lately and frankly I’m paying the price for it. They started out in the kitchen but congregated to the bunny room, and they seem to be super attracted to their litter boxes. The weird thing is that they look like fruit flies but they prefer the litter boxes over the apple cider vinegar traps I’v…[Read more]
