MissyBunny replied to the topic How to tell when they're bonded in the forum BONDING 5 years, 3 months ago
I vacuum almost daily, neither bunnies lived in here prior. Only my first bunny lived in here but it was almost 3 month before these guys got moved in. I haven’t rearranged anything since they lived in here. They will sit together and eat no issue, they will sit in the same house no issue but whenever I spend time with them I catch them having…[Read more]

I can’t think of anything I’ve done different, I visited new friends yesterday but that wouldn’t explain his behaviour the day before or yesterday, I’ve not changed his food or gone anywhere so I cant think of an explanation, unless he’s upset I’ve cleaned out his hutch but I do that often and he’s never seemed upset about that before, he se…[Read more]

It is good that he seems fine– that being said, it is not uncommon for a rabbit to suddenly act out when not feeling well. My rabbit had broken one of his fingers a while back and he acted completely normally (eating, pooping, energy…) the entire time, despite the fact that he literally had a broken bone. I would be observant if there is…[Read more]

I have a male rabbit, he’s about four years old and has always been closest bonded to me. He comes over for cuddles and head scratches, nudging for attention and always accepting food and being picked up. He seemed odd yesterday when I went to pick him up to bring him to my room when he was thumping and staying away, I backed up but picked him u…[Read more]

Thank you for the insight Azerane. The male has always been the dominate one and the female is and always has been very submissive. (She’s the type that doesn’t run away, she just freezes in situations where my other bunnies run. ) I appreciate your feedback. It really is perplexing but is good to learn about the potential of unwellness.

Thank you for the feedback, Wick. I’ll mediate and think through any issues stressing their bond. 🙏🏻

Do you know if your female is typically the dominant rabbit? Sometimes if a dominant rabbit becomes unwell even if we can’t tell yet, another rabbit may pick on them. I agree with separating them for a time, so some basic bonding and see how they go. If it persists it might be worth getting them both checked out for health issues.

Bam replied to the topic How much fruit do you feed your bun? in the forum DIET & CARE 5 years, 3 months ago
I give my bun a piece of apple almost every day, something like an inch cube. He’s special needs though, and a senior, so he has trouble keeping weight on. He weighs 1.5 kilos, so its quite a big chunk of apple for him.
Wild rabbits will eat wind fall apples and pears in the fall (which is extremely cute to get to watch), but wild rabbits…[Read more]

I almost never give fruit. I did recently buy some dried strawberry as treats (I’ve given Luna 1 tiny piece a day), and I mixed banana and blackberry through Luna’s critical care (first time she’d tried either). But that’s really only because she’s been ill. I don’t routinely give fruit at all.

Hi, apologies for the late response! Thank you so much for your help. I took your suggestion and pet them more during the sessions and it helped to keep them both calmer. I’m also swapping their litter boxes now (I was swapping their pens but Chewy would get very disoriented and couldn’t find his way back to the other pen when we let him out). …[Read more]

It is truly heart breaking. Sub q fluids will of course do him some good. Keeping him warm is of the utmost importance now.
Any vet is probably better than no vet at this point. They could do basic supportive care at least

Wick & Fable replied to the topic 3rd Cut Timothy Hay in the forum DIET & CARE 5 years, 3 months ago
The only time I’d be concerned about a rabbit being on solely 3rd cut is if they are a rabbit who is more prone to dental or maybe GI distress, in which case the decreased fiber/hard texture may not be enough to maintain the rabbit, but there are rabbits who do just fine on 3rd cut!

There’s no one in the building until Monday. I don’t think he’ll be alive then and I can’t imagine there will be anything to do by then.
I gave him some more SQ fluid this morning because… it’s something I can do, and he showed interest in his water bowl.
this is so hard. I raised him since he was a tiny fluff. I didn’t know I would fall so…[Read more]

I’m sorry to hear about what both you and your rabbit are going through. My Wick recently broke a finger on his front paw, and being a free-roam rabbit, yes, it is upsetting for us owners to keep them on cage rest, but Wick is now healed up and good to go over a month later.
Some things I did to help Wick (though arguably he seemed totally fine…[Read more]
