I think she is likely adjusting to her new hormone balance. There can be fluctuations for 4-6 weeks. Maybe she was also very excited to explore after being cooped up, but then has calmed down a bit now that she has more exercise time again?

Hey, I realize this is a very late reply, but I did decide to go to SEAVS in Fairfax thanks to the link that @Wick provided.  They were awesome! and his recovery went smoothly, even though they did say that he was a bit of a handful to work with 😛

I found out something interesting recently that I think is an added benefit of the hay with some legumes or herbs mixed in (assuming they were grown in the same field and not mixed).

Sugar content varies depending on growing conditions, maturity, and harvest/curing conditions. So sugar content isn’t going to be a fixed percentage. Instead, it’s a range. That being said, unless your bunny has a metabolic problem, I wouldn’t worry about sugar content in the grass hay.

In terms of allowing them to get to know each other through the cage, that is fine. Once they are neutered, the priority is giving them separate, restricted space so they can recover smoothly.

One of my rabbits does this often. I suspect it’s the instinct to landscape and make a nice little nook to sit/pee in later, haha. Corners are very appealing because they know they are safe with two walls behind them, so it’s a nice space to be vulnerable, rest, etc.. What makes it even nicer is having a little “nook” I imagine! It’s great that you have a check-up soon. Unfortunately, nothing comes to mind, but the fact that you’re noticing a significant change, in addition to increased soreness, I think the vet is the best option for assessment. It’s good to hear she is still behaving the same as usual.

I think exposure and habituation will be key. One of my rabbits gets anxious whenever things change, whether it be literally moving a chair to a different place or leaving our socks on the floor. I imagine there may be texture and/or scent differences with new wood pellets, so hopefully over time those novelties are less impactful.

A few things come to mind. First, just making sure that they are indeed healthy and well-recovered from the neuter. This means ensuring that they are eating (which it sounds like they are) and that poop/pee is looking normal. It is always a bit difficult to assess from a picture, it’s way better to feel the rabbit over. I think I see a dewlap tendency under his chin (although on the pics it’s spread out so it rests on his “shoulders”. If it is a dewlap you can feel it, it’s like a pouch with soft and squishy contents.

Rabbits can eat white willow, Salix alba. We have a big white willow in our yard, and all my buns have appreciated leaves and twigs from that tree. I had one rabbit who wouldn’t eat anything but leaves from that tree when he was poorly.

Start with a few leaves, of course -all new food should be introduced slowly and gradually.
