That’s interesting about your vet. You might find this survey interesting, done by the UK rabbit welfare association on which types of bonds are generally successful:
They didn’t have data on bonding…[Read more]

Thanks DanaNm! My vet specializes in rabbits and has several, so I would generally trust him. He did say he has dealt with a large amount of injuries from supposedly bonded buns and maybe that is part of his hesitation. The shelter close to me does have a couple of single buns, but they are not seeming like good fits for various reasons. One has a…[Read more]

Sorry she isn’t feeling well, it’s true these things always seem to happen on holiday weekends. 🙁
I would give her whatever she feels like eating (aside from ultra sugary treats), and if she will eat romaine or other greens, feel free to give her extra, served wet to get some extra water into her.
Keeping her moving is good, and the fact that…[Read more]

Oh one more thing, should I be keeping her away from pellets right now? Do those make stasis or gas worse, or can I give them to her if she feels like eating them? She current eats Oxbow’s garden select pellets so I’m not sure if they are further irritating her stomach or something.

It seems Rain is going through stasis once again, which is the third time in the last six-eight months. The situation is the same like always, it’s on a day where the only rabbit vet office nearby is closed until Tuesday. I’m not sure what to do as the stasis is recurring and I know one of the major reasons is because she refuses to eat hay. We’…[Read more]

Indeed, I agree with those above. If, at the end of the day, there is an unwillingness to find a suitable substitute, I would suggest working with a local rescue to rehome your rabbit. Hay is the most important piece of a rabbit’s diet (and dental + GI health) and makes the largest portion of the diet, so not having it in abundance and always…[Read more]

It’s hard to tell with the fluffy fur… but I knew that it would be. LOL The shorter face and ear shape (even Boo’s) suggest Holland lop. I’m still going with the someone was trying to make lionlops hypothesis. I know they aren’t related, but they have a ton of similarities.

I agree with Dana. Has your husband had allergy testing? Does he know what grasses he is allergic to? I assume he hasn’t since it sounds like this was a surprise. You can always do trial and error. As Dana said, many people who are allergic to Timothy are OK with orchard grass.

Posted better pics. Was having issues getting text with the pics.
Walter is “half lopped”, Boos ears are fairly straight. But neither have the little lionhead triangles. But both are perfect!!

DanaNM replied to the topic No timothy hay in the forum DIET & CARE 5 years, 2 months ago
Unfortunately hay is the most important part of a rabbit’s diet, it should be 75-80% of their food, and available 24/7. Chewing long strands of hay is also important to keep the rabbit’s teeth healthy and prevent boredom.
But, there are other types of hays that tend to be less allergenic, and any type of grass hay would be fine. A lot of people…[Read more]

Gello, i recently aquired a rabbit. Come to find out my husband is allergic to the hay. Is there a way to omit the hay from his diet? He has pellets and i feed him greens on a daily.
