    http://www.medirabbit.com/EN/Skin_diseases/Bacterial/Syphilis.htm

Medirabbit does a short mention of the atypical cases. They do not mention azithromycin as a treatment, but it was something one of Wick’s past vets went through, and there are studies comparing it to pen g: https://academic.oup.com/jac/article-abstract/25/suppl_A/91/697854 , https:…[Read more]

Thanks for the update! Although late, ultimately it is great that the problem’s root was identified, and it was thanks to your vigilance and effort! Ear infections are definitely not uncommon for rabbits (ears are their most notable feature, after all!), so there are many resources and cases documented online that can aid hopefully both you and…[Read more]

Hm ok that’s good to know… Maybe Theo also is experiencing something like that. We’ll see what the vet say tomorrow morning! I hope that maybe we can do an oral treatment… these shots are emotionally and physically exhausting :/

    Hello Everyone,

I figured I would update you all on Annie, since you were all so helpful.

I brought her into the vet today, and turns out she has a pretty bad ear infection in her right ear.

I am very upset about it all since I try my best to stay on top of her and any issues she is having.

I had brought her into the vet about 3 weeks ago…[Read more]

She’s been a bit slower today, which makes sense because I was watching her the whole night so she probably got interrupted sleep. Some poops were made in the morning. She ate lettuce without any hesitation luckily! When I give her softened pellets she’ll take those too. Hopefully if she can keep up this till tomorrow things will turn out fine lik…[Read more]

You might also check out the dog trainer “Kikopup” on youtube. She has some videos on “capturing calmness” and working with high-prey drive dogs to remain calm around prey and in general. I used some her methods to work with my in-law’s teenage hunting dog and found them to be really effective!

She has some very impressive vids of her 5 dogs…[Read more]

Yes haha I think I feel a lot worse than my bunny will.

I am already sad and it has been few hours. But I always tell myself that I cannot sacrifice my life because of her you know. Even I love her to death ♥️

I was thinking about that!! I had a old shirt on me two days haha is it enough for her to smell me?

Thanks for the responses! @Bam, UroborusElite’s post is quite helpful! I’ll have to give her suggestions a shot. And yes, I will definitely get the idea across that the bunny is OURS, not HIS 😂

And @DanaNM, yes, his prey drive is pretty strong, but he does listen to me in distracting environments. The problem is I’m afraid that he’ll trample her…[Read more]

Aww that’s a bummer about the fight, but good thing you were home. These things can happen sometimes.

You might opt to do a few short sessions (especially some stressing) before you move, just to give you a better idea of how things might go. Maybe some car rides together?

Yep, once they are spayed and have some time for their hormones to settle, you can start the bonding process. They can be housed side-by-side in the mean time though (just make sure they can’t nip noses through the fence). You should wait at least 3 weeks after spaying, but it can take longer for hormones to fully stabilize. Some people opt to…[Read more]

Yeah, it sounded like being in a new place with unfamiliar people helped them bond very quickly. Through the fence with enough space to not touch, they’ll sniff each other and relax against the bars in their enclosures. When they are close enough to touch (bump noses at most), they tend to grunt and will try to fight. I’ve even seem them try to…[Read more]

Notably, my Wick originally had ringworm which we treated but then it kept “coming back”… that’s when we had suspicions that somewhere along the line, we were no longer treating ringworm, but syphilis.

The mouth-only-symptoms cases of syphilis are considered atypical. Wick’s vet at the time said they are increasing in prevalence, anecdotally. I…[Read more]

Once they’re both spayed can I start the bonding process?

Thanks everyone for the input! I wasn’t clear before, there were no scabs around his mouth. The fur that fell out from his underchin was flaky on the end, but the skin itself wasn’t too flaky. The couple of other bald spots are much smaller and on his back supposedly where the injections went in I think.

The vet tested a fungal culture for…[Read more]

The mouth/chin area does look healthy– the fur will take awhile to grow in, but it looks very promising! It reminds me exactly of what my Wick went through:

My rabbit had both ringworm and syphilis, so we did treat for both. At this time ^^^ we were only treating ringworm (did not think of syphilis at the time), so we did ringworm treatment…[Read more]

The pictures show a scab on his back. This is definitely from the repeated injections. As for around his mouth… I don’t see any scabs or flakes. Could it be that the injections are working and the scabs fell off? There won’t be any fur where the scabs fell off. It takes a while for the fur to grow back once the skin is healthy again.

It may not ever be possible if the prey-drive is very strong. How well does your dog respond to training? Does he know the “leave it” cue? Does he listen to you in distracting environments?

If not, and if he isn’t responsive to training, then the most peaceful and safe coexistence would be to keep them separate.
