I agree with tobyluv, speed dating isn’t necessary! And it’s true that some buns just behave so differently at the date that it isn’t always informative.

I like to do dating when I can, but I’m usually just looking to make sure the buns don’t absolutely HATE each other.

I think if there is a bun you would like to adopt then I would go for it.…[Read more]

A fecal float is a good test to see if he has intestinal parasites. Ultrasounds can also be very informative.

Pine shavings can cause some issues long term, but pine pellets are safe because the aromatic compounds are removed in the pelleting process. And it is something that might never cause issues unless the rabbit has to go under anesthesia.…[Read more]

So I just read your thread on rabbits online, and I hate to say it, but I personally would not attempt to re-bond. 🙁

I say that just because I know how much you have been through with them, and the fact that there was a lot of bullying even when they were “bonded”, plus all the issues with food aggression. Having one rabbit with an illness can…[Read more]

Sounds great! It’s hard to advise the next step without knowing exactly what you’ve been doing so far, but in general whatever you did that worked well, keep doing that for longer (so same location, time of day, etc)! When you see those positive behaviors repeated for several sessions/days in a row, then you can keep increasing the time they spend…[Read more]

That sounds like a good plan. 🙂 That all sounds like normal behavior that should calm down with time.

    Hi @Lisa-P&T ,

Since this thread is very old, I’m not sure the OP will respond as I don’t think they have been active on the forums for a long time. You have Tony and Phil right? I know you have been through the ringer with them. 🙁

I’ll leave this thread open for now just in case the OP notices, but in general it’s best not to reply to old…[Read more]

    Hi everyone.

I came across this thread in my desperate search for help. People seem to be very knowledgeable and I’d love if anyone could offer advice on my own thread which I will link below. I have 2 female rabbits. One is ultra-dominant, very alpha (even with us, her human slaves!) and they’ve recently had a huge fight, similar to the one…[Read more]

With the simethicone just look for the baby kind. Any pharmacy should have some! One of my rabbits also doesn’t eat much during the day then eats her weight in hay overnight so it definitely can make it hard to figure out what’s going on!

Apologies, I just realised that I am mixing up 2 forums!! But any advice would be brilliant as I have always found users of this site to be very knoedgable and generous with their advice.

@pinkiemarie – I haven’t seen her eating hay today, but I’m going to keep on monitoring. She likes to eat hay at night. I’m going to give her some pellets later on as you suggested, and see if I can wean her off. She absolutely loves pellets, so I have a feeling it’s not going to be easy. I’ve never actually had to use simethicone, but I’m going…[Read more]

It can take up to 2 weeks to see improvement but what you’re describing doesn’t sound good. You mentioned not drinking but is she eating? If not give her a small amount of pellets and if she is willing to eat those and not hay then you’ll need to wean her off the pellets slowly. I would also suggest getting baby simethicone/gas drops and critical…[Read more]

Thank you Bam. I cleaned his nose tonight with towel and it seemed like could be wiped off. The towel was all yellowish and poop color just like wiped someone’s bottom😅 So could it just be cecotropes? He has had ton of cecotropes left before and he just has started to eat his cecotropes lately after adjusting the diet.
I’ll see if this thing com…[Read more]

Yay, that’s golden that he’s starting to eat more hay! I’ve heard buns like orchard grass hay more because it’s sweeter ♥

We have a local horse stable, and we get our orchard hay cheap by the bale. It’s so much more affordable than buying pet store hay, plus it’s less dustier and much greener. Lol, the stuff they were selling at the pet store…[Read more]

American Sable buns’ fur also changes color as they mature ♥

When my bun was a baby her fur was dark grey, but when she grew older her fur turned chocolate brown, and she got black ears and paws.

Update: We’re on day 2 of an all-hay diet, and things are not looking good. This morning the floor of Binkie’s pen was all covered with cecotrope smudges again, and worse than before. I’ve had to remove her stuffies and blankets to wash them since they were all dirty. She’s not totally irresponsive, but she’s been sitting in the corner of her pen…[Read more]
