I am very glad to hear that this is possibility for me. I was worried so much because i heard from youtube videos that having same time for feeding, playing etc. every day helps rabbits gain confidence/is good for them. I understood that as rabbits start to feel very unwell if you keep changing those times. But thank you for telling me it’s not…[Read more]

Woo! I believe we have found a second rabbit friendly vet in the area! Hopefully we can get in for a consult there and establish care and I can really get a sense of if it’s a better fit. Our old vet is basically the next closest exotic and he’s a 5 hour drive. Not ideal

thanks! I will definitely check out more bonding info. I’ve always read…[Read more]

If they were my two, I think I would also call it quits based on the whole history. Some pairs just aren’t good matches, and female-female pairs tend to be the hardest. Also I feel that even if a pair is technically possible, at some point it becomes not worth the risk and stress to the animals to force a bond.

And you know them best, so don’t…[Read more]

Aww sorry to hear that. Some set backs happen in most bonding processes. Do you think they (and you) might benefit from a little break to rest?

When I’ve gotten stuck with my bunnies, often a new location for sessions has helped. I think after long bonding processes the neutral spaces become less neutral. Do you have any where else you could work…[Read more]

    You’re welcome!
I actually wrote a blog post for the binky bunny blog about all the conflicting info out there, but it’s not published yet!

And yes, in early stages especially it can be tempting to push thing too far too fast (and end up with lots of fighting), so it’s good to be a little on the cautious side!

It sounds like it’s going very well! But at this stage I would strongly advise you to not leave their side for even a few seconds. Things can happen in a flash (especially in a small space like a tub), so it’s important to be there supervising the whole time.

In terms of water, you can add a bowl and/or give some wet greens to help hydrate them.…[Read more]

That clarifies things! It sounds to me like you would be able to provide a good home to a pair of bunnies. 🙂  I think rabbits are more work than a cat, but less than a dog, if that helps put things in perspective?

I was curious about scheduling because my neighbor is an ultrasound technician, and for a while she was working back to back shifts…[Read more]

Thank you once again for your reply. The space is long enough so that they can be apart if they want to, but small enough so that they can always see each other and so that I can see both of them.

The chases are quite short and there is no negative reaction from Ori, he chases her and then she comes back close to him and flops or rests, that what…[Read more]

You mention her pain tolerance is low — was she and has she been receiving medication for pain management, such as meloxicam and/or tramadol? A rabbit who is in pain should be on pain meds consistently to better recovery.

My personal opinion is to let chases happen but be ready to intervene if they seem to escalate or are so frequent they are not being productive– it’s a slippery slope and also depends on how much room there is and everyone’s agility (including yours). If it is set up and factors are in the way that if a chase happens and you cannot stop it if it…[Read more]

    Thank you for your answer.

Yes, the chasing is happening in the neutral territory. I didn’t know that binkies had that meaning too!

She just runs a little from him and then flops or stretches, hence why I think she’s not scared…she was also previously bonded to another rabbit, but for Daxter is the first time he’s been near another rabbit. I…[Read more]

1 – a spay/neuter is two to three visits typically (the procedure, the follow-up, and sometimes a pre-op visit beforehand). If you’re uncomfortable with the closest vet, perhaps you’d be willing to go to a much further one for just a couple visits?

2 – I don’t know the actual age boundary for viability of pregnancy, but yes, the sooner the better…[Read more]

Hahahahahaha! OMG, this is hilarious. This exact thing used to happen with my bun when she used to have one of those store cages. I had to literally take the thing apart, hose it down and dry it off afterwards. And then I had to rearrange everything… the toys and blankets and stuff. And after five minutes it’s a catastrophe all over again, and…[Read more]

I’ll mention that binkies are not exclusive to positive affect– binkying is also a flourishing movement to better escape and get away too. This interpretation doesn’t really change what your next steps are, but it can just be helpful for you to consider that Ori may be “playing hard to get” or is genuinely trying to evade a rabbit who is nipping…[Read more]

Hi! I have a male, neutered 1yr old bunny (Daxter), and we recently adopted a second bunny, a little 7 month old female named Ori (she’s spayed as well). We’ve been bonding them for 2 weeks now and so far it’s gone like this:

    Week #1:

For the first week, we set up a large x-pen for Ori in a separate room, so that she could get comfortable and…[Read more]

Hey all! I am not new to house rabbits (my Olive is 11 years old now and he is certainly not my first bun) but I have never had a bonded pair. My older bun went to rabbit speed dating and was not considered a candidate to have a friend.

Rabbits can sense things that we cannot, so it is possible that he has been picking up on something that you cannot perceive– in which case, there’s not much you can do but let him habituate to it. Regarding the environment, just make sure there is a place he considers a “safe space” he can go to if he is feeling scared.
