I’m so sorry she isn’t getting better. 🙁
I fostered a bun with what seemed to be chronic cecal dysbiosis and cecal dysautonomia (aka. disfunction of the nerves of the cecum). My vet was extremely rabbit savvy, and suspected that he may have something similar to cow pile syndrome (megacolon), as he had the coloration that tends to be linked to…[Read more]

Mentronidazole is a bunny safe antibiotic that is effective on bacteria that dont need oxygen to thrive. It’s typically given for persistent tummy trouble that does not respond to standard treatment such as a hay only diet.
You can give a probiotic too, a few hours before or after the antibiotic. Probiotics are bacteria and, in the case of buns,…[Read more]

Wick & Fable replied to the topic Urine Scalding Help in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 5 years, 2 months ago
I know this isn’t your question, but did the vet assess for what is causing the urine scalding? If the root of the problem isn’t solved (i.e. your rabbit urinating on himself enough to cause scald), then he will never heal and it will keep being this.
I personally don’t have experience with urine scalding, but I imagine a fastened soft fabric,…[Read more]

My poor 9 year old male bun started urinating outside of the litter box about a week ago, and I thought it was out of character and could be indication of an underlying medical issue. My vet assured me that it was nothing to be worried about.
I cleaned the cage this week and noticed a large amount of fur clumps around the cage. I thought they…[Read more]

Sounds great, glad they are doing so well! Ruby still charges and growls at Elmer when they hear me open the treats. I guess she is afraid he already got something? Thankfully he evades her with hops and running in circles and doesn’t get too upset. I have to give them the exact quantity that they will finish at the same time so no one tries to…[Read more]

I would at least call the vet to get a safe prescription and ask if they feel that they need to see her again.

You can always search MediRabbit as a reliable place to identify what is OK and not for rabbits. Typically I’ll google Medirabbit and the medication name. From Medirabbit, metronidazole is another antibiotic.

Dorian is so cute! I love seeing him flopping on the little bed 🙂
Hopefully you’re all staying cool enough & safe amongst the various crazy weather and heat patterns all over! Luckily it hasn’t been crazy where I am at, just super humid – but that is a usual in the summer months for us.

Thank you @pinkiemarie ♥ This is a stressful situation, and I’m always having to keep monitoring her and cleaning her off… I really hope it starts to improve. I have a question though; Should I take her back to the vet? Or should I give her a probiotic and keep on dealing with it myself?

I’m sorry she still isn’t improving but thankfully the mods here are really well informed to help fill in gaps when you don’t have access to a rabbit specialist veterinarian!

Welcome to Binkybunny Rabby! Since this is an older topic and is generally resolved, I’m going to close it– however, I welcome you to create your own topic if you’d like thoughts and feedback regarding the cage you pictured and questions you may have about Mickey and rabbit care in general.
I will note that that cage is very small, so that only…[Read more]

OMG, thanks Bam. I just trusted my gut and look… it’s unsafe. You can’t trust any vets here. I don’t think are ANY actual rabbit-savvy vets. Some are better than others but they still have very limited knowledge. I have actually used spectinomycin before years ago on both my buns (one with an abscess, and one with tummy trouble). It worked on my…[Read more]

I agree with Wick, I have a pair of bonded neutered males and one is pretty aggressive and the other is super chill. You would think the aggressive one would be dominant but the chill one actually won dominance by just calmly putting his head under the other one’s head over and over and over again. I’m not sure how the dominance will work out in…[Read more]
