Thank you both. I’ll add more detail. I really appreciate it.
We are doing dates in the bathroom for now. We have tried all throughout the upstairs and have an unfinished super neutral basement in the back pocket, I am willing to move them to when needed.Do some stress bonding when dates don’t go well/have a fight but rarely as part of the…[Read more]

My goodness that is very hot! I know rabbits do sometimes like to sunbathe, and will cuddle up to a warm spot when it’s cold out, but that is pretty extreme.
Do they have a way to get out of the heat easily? Rabbits can get heat stroke at temps over around 26 C (80F), so I personally wouldn’t let them spend much time out there.

DanaNM replied to the topic Best Rabbit Litter in the forum HABITATS AND TOYS 5 years ago
I concur that pine pellets are awesome.
Clumping litter as a rule is not safe for rabbits, but pine pellets break apart when saturated, so it’s kind of a reverse clumping. I use a cat scoop to scoop out the wet areas and sift out any clean pellets.

I agree with Wick, I usually don’t have litter trays or hide outs in the bonding area until they are acting pretty much bonded.
The other thing to try is possible a brand new area if you’ve got one (such as a friend’s house or another room). When bonding goes on a long time, the neutral spaces can become less neutral.
If the small space goes…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic How Much Prebonding to do? in the forum BONDING 5 years ago
There is no hard and fast rule for how long to pre-bond, but on avg people seem to do about 1-2 weeks minimum.
The main thing is to see how their behaviors are towards each other and after you do the swaps. I like to pre-bond until both bunnies seem really relaxed towards each other (through the fence) and don’t seem phased by the swaps (you…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic UPDATE, please read: Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease Outbreak in North America in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 5 years ago
The original post at the top has links to what you can do to reduce exposure (most importantly keeping rabbits indoors and practicing biosecurity measures), but the virus is so contagious and seems to be about 90% lethal, so vaccination is the best thing you can do, and the only thing that will give immunity. A single hair or fly spec carrying the…[Read more]

Yes, they are doing some things that bonded rabbits do, but they are also doing things non-bonded rabbits do too. Take it as promising that you see grooming and can go some hours without a dispute while still having proximity, but this a part of the process. A true bond will not be unstable like this, so they are not bonded.
It would be helpful…[Read more]

Back story: We’ve had our two bunnies for 6 months now and have been trying to bond them. Kate the black havanna is a little older, more friendly, and used to be a therapy rabbit (had her for 18 months). The other Bruce is younger we think, was found outside, and is kinda timid. He hangs out most of the day in his box.
Bonding:
1.We have been…[Read more]

Bam replied to the topic Poop size changes after night in the forum DIET & CARE 5 years ago
It is actually normal for the poops to be smaller after a longer period of resting. Rabbits are not nocturnal, they’re crepuscular meaning they’re at their most active in the evenings and mornings.
As LBJ says, it’s great that you’re keeping track. Knowing what’s normal for your particular bun is very useful and enables you to detect potential…[Read more]

Wick & Fable replied to the topic Rabbit recovering from GI stasis in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 5 years ago
GI stasis is a symptom, as it is a state where the GI system slows down. This is always caused by something, whether because of gas from eating something that upset the tummy, stress, pain, etc.. If the GI stasis was caused by something that will occur again, then yes, it will likely happen again. If it was a one-time thing (which happens;…[Read more]

Wick & Fable replied to the topic robot vacuum for bunny homes? in the forum THE LOUNGE 5 years ago
I think that depends on the vacuum, but considering robot vacuums don’t have all the hoses and pipe mechanics, it would probably get into the dirt cartridge fine, or just be left on the floor.

Wick & Fable replied to the topic Is this molting or something else in the forum DIET & CARE 5 years ago
At this point, whenever my rabbits molt, I consider them molting, regardless of the time of year. With them being indoors, I don’t think rabbit molting is as regimented as nature designed it. If it’s hot out, I expect rabbits probably want to shed/molt because they don’t want all that dense fur!

Wick & Fable replied to the topic Pine shavings in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 5 years ago
Since they still have a faint smell, I would recommend against using them in your rabbit’s environment: https://rabbit.org/care/shavings.html
While it’s nice that your friend saved these for you, I think it’s best to be safe and avoid using them for your rabbit. That being said, the cardboard box that they are in can make a mighty fine hidey…[Read more]

<p style=”text-align: center;”>Hi, my friend made some furniture and gave me the wood shavings. They are very fine, and have been sitting at least 6 months because he forgot to give them to me before. They only have a very faint smell left. Are these safe to give to my rabbits in a dig box?</p>

Hi everyone! My rabbits have been pre bonding about 4 days now (changing their toys and litter boxes daily, as well as occasionally switching which enclosure they live in) and I’m thinking about putting them in their carriers facing each other to get a better sniff soon. Is 4 days not long enough? They wouldn’t be able to touch each other.…[Read more]

I have two almost five month old bunnies, mittu and bunny. They’ve sadly contracted a mange infection; but they’re currently being administered treatment for it. But ever since their first shot they seem to love going outside to the balcony and chilling there for hours. We don’t let them go out in the afternoon; only mornings and evenings when…[Read more]
