How large is his cage and how large is the exercise pen? Can you combine the two? Bunnies need lots of room when being confined. They also benefit from regular run time in a bunny-proofed area. Young bunnies especially love to explore.

Hi Everyone!
I am new bunny mom! My husband and I welcomed a new 2 month old male Holland Lop about 3 weeks ago now. He is a sweetie…but saaasssy! If someone can help me to ease my mind about some of his behavior and possibly answer some questions, I would so very much appreciate any and all information, suggestions, answers, etc:) Not…[Read more]

I agree, it’s very unprofessional for them to go through with the surgery knowing they don’t have the needed post surgery medications to send home with the rabbit. If they ran out unexpectedly they should have rescheduled the spay. Especially since it’s a prescription only medication not labelled or rabbits that other vets will be hesitant or…[Read more]

Hmm… that’s odd. The vet should be able to call over to another vet office.

That’s exactly what I thought! Even before that, I thought it was very unprofessional of them to be out of stock in the first place because today is specifically the day where they neuter/spay 15-20 bunnies at a low cost (called low-cost day), so they should’ve ordered a lot more beforehand. It was shocking to me because the Georgia House R…[Read more]

And your vet can’t call another and get the prescription because they ran out? They’d rather let your bun suffer? I’d be calling cursing and NEVER go back.

Thank you for the advice! Unfortunately, Ive called almost every single vet in my area, and they all said they can’t give it to me because it’s a prescription. I called the vet we went to to get the spay, and they said it’s not possible to get metacam elsewhere because it’s a prescription 🙁 Thank you again though!!

she’s only eaten around 5 pieces of cilantro. I called the vet, and I’m not sure why but they told me to wait after I finish 3 doses of gas drops to start critical care.

Thank you for taking the time and care to respond to the many postings on the many forums of this site. I have noticed that you often ensure that the bunny community is well educated and informed. Your knowledge is impressive. We are all grateful — especially as there are times that your information to us brings “peace” of mind and safety to…[Read more]

Rabbits as s rule get dog metacam which has a strenght of 1.5 mg/ml (cat metacam is 0.5 mg/ml). Rabbits need a comparatively high dose of metacam because they metabolize more rapidly than dogs and cats. One dose should last 12-24 hours though.
I agree you should try to get some more for your bun, preferably 5-7 days’s worth. Pain relief is very…[Read more]

A rule of thumb is to not go to bed for the night on the day of the spay until the buns has eaten at least something. She might not want pellets, but fresh greens (esp fragrant herbs) might entice her to eat. If she refuses completely, you should do Critical Care. Eating is important for maintaining body temperature, a bun just out of surgery is…[Read more]

Hello fellow bunnies. My bunny got spayed today and she has not been eating since I picked her up. When do I begin administering critical care to my bunny? My vet told me to give her gas drops when she starts eating. Can I give gas drops while also giving critical care?

Just to chime in, this is the first I’ve heard of a bun being able to have a molar trimming without anesthesia. They have 28 teeth in that tiny mouth, so to get at the back teeth they have a special brace they use to prop their mouth open, and it is very important for the bun not to move at all (so they didn’t accidentally get cut but the drill…[Read more]

It was not a standard to perform spur trimming without sedation. The vet did tell me that it was likely that they needed to sedate her. But fortunately she was very cooperative. Maybe it had to do with where the Spurs were located. Hers were on the tongue sides. Tootoo as I mentioned in my post was a shy and sensitive bunny. She would not put on a…[Read more]

It’s off label for bunnies. The version I’ve used is always labeled for dogs.

That’s great! I have no idea how adding pellets could clear up the mushy cecotropes but I’m so glad she’s doing better!
