I think it would be OK as long as they are doing well in it! If things start to get bad in the longer sessions though, I would move to a fully neutral spot for longer sessions. I’ve noticed with some of my pairs the buns would do great for a while in less neutral space, and then at some point they would get aggressive (but that wouldn’t happen in…[Read more]

That is so wonderful to hear!

Do you happen to have simethicone in your bunny first aid kit? It can be helpful when you suspect gas, and doesn’t do harm if it isn’t needed.

Some other good things to have on hand are a thermometer (a soft one, like for oral use with babies), supplies for syringe feeding, and even lactated ringers (from your vet).

Thank you C&O for highlighting that harnesses can indeed be less risky for particular rabbits paired with proper training. At the same time, we must always be vigilant for the exact dangers C&O mentions, like birds, ticks, and fleas.

You will find access to the most current map and information by state here: rabbit.org/RHDV

They tend to update this page fairly often.
In terms of vaccinations, if there are no cases in your area, it is likely you will not find vaccines. They are currently in limited supply and are prioritized for areas with reported cases.

That is so great to hear. This will also be nice to have public, as cold tongue is not a symptom commonly reported, so this experience may help others in the future. Thanks for keeping us updated!

I was looking all over but I can’t find out if RHV2 is in Illinois, I live by Chicago and want to know if it is spreading over here. Also does anyone know where I can get the vacinne for my bunnies near me?

Thank you Wick & Fable and Dana!  And agreed Dana, it’s so frustrating!  Sierra is still acting fine, and even did a flop about 2 hours after the fall so I am optimistic.  But I will continue to monitor very closely, and maybe I will bring her in tomorrow or the day after, since she needs to have her nails cut soon as well.  There is only 1 vet…[Read more]

The space sounds great! I bet the bunnies would love a bunny friend. The size and age difference doesn’t matter. Good luck!

My bunnies are both harness trained. I did it because they are very active and curious bunnies. They love it. I take them around the house only because of RHDV2. My bunnies are fine with a harness and it is safe for them because I trained them very slowly and carefully. They have H harnesses which would be the way do go because it put they least…[Read more]

Cinnimon&Ollie replied to the topic New Bunny Problems. HELP! in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 5 years ago

Sorry for your loss. Losing a pet is really hard. I wouldn’t be able to live without my bunnies. I think that the teeth check would be a good idea. In the meantime I know they make hay pellets. They are just hay but in pellet form. It would give your bunny some hay but they chew hay and pellets differently so it wouldn’t wear down the teeth they…[Read more]

The spot they do they best in is actully not neutral… we found this out by mistake when I had Cinnimon out and Ollie dragged his hideout to the side of his c age and jumped out ( He can’t do that anymore). Should I still do it there?

Sorry for your loss of Peri 🙁

I think since she’s not spayed yet, I would separate them. It should help a lot with the spraying, digging, and aggression. At this point pre-bonding isn’t too important because she will smell differently once she’s spayed.

As for the hay, it can be tricky to know if the bun is selective because they’ve been given…[Read more]

(Also, isn’t it wild how buns can injure themselves doing seemingly nothing, but then handle a fall like nothing happened??)

DanaNM replied to the topic Bunny Fell – Deciding About Vet in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 5 years ago

I agree that I would monitor for a bit more, and try to be sneaky about it so she doesn’t feel hovered over. As prey animals rabbits hide their injuries very well!

The safest thing would be to bring her in (worst case she gets a check up), but you might be able to give the vet better info with a bit more monitoring.

He’s now acting and eating normally, I’ll still keep a close eye on him but sincerely thank you everyone who commented.

I barely slept a wink and I was worried out of my mind but your advices really helped me keep calm!

Hope everyone has an amazing rest of their day <3

Bam replied to the topic Bunny is mad? in the forum BEHAVIOR 5 years ago

Your bunny is not mad. Whether buns can see spirit can be debated. What they definitely can do though, is to react with thumping to things humans don’t or can’t notice. They have a much finer sense of smell than we have, their hearing is more acute. They see the world differently than we do because we have the vision of predators whereas rabbits…[Read more]

Wick & Fable replied to the topic Bunny Fell – Deciding About Vet in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 5 years ago

I would monitor for any weird movements, sounds, or health-related behavior changes (poop, pee, energy, posture, appetite) for the next couple hours before deciding the vet is not needed. It can take a bit for a rabbit to feel secure and show what might be some issues.

Be vigilant about her body and see if you’re able to notice any swelling over…[Read more]
