LBJ10 replied to the topic Looking for a new bun, Otter Rex in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 4 years, 10 months ago
When looking at shelters/rescues, I would just search for rex bunnies. Workers often don’t know enough about colors and patterns to label them properly. I’ve also noticed that shelters/rescues, if their specialty isn’t rabbits, they tend to label lots of bunnies as “rex”. But a rex bunny will have the short, plush rex fur and curly whiskers.

A one-sided love affair! I’m sure Fable enjoys loving Wick from a distance though.
I havent really started to think about Halloween yet. It was summer a minute ago!
Here’s a picture of my little girl, munching on a piece of chickweed:

Hey guys, sorry if this is not the right place to ask this question but I couldn’t find another topic area for it.
I currently have a New Zealand little bun boy and I want to get another rabbit to keep him company. I really LOVE the look of Otter Rexes and was looking to either adopt or buy one but google is giving me nothing. Does anyone know…[Read more]

I wasn’t talking about the links… I think those need to be updated. I was talking about the list of suggested questions for the vet when trying to find a rabbit-savvy vet.
For example, if you ask them if bunnies should be fasted before surgery… the answer better be no.

Thank you so much for providing more help with the link you have given me!! But sadly the links given there did not work and my country is not listed there but thank you very much for helping me out!! And I did ask about the frequency of rabbit patients and neutering/GI stasis cases they have done before registering my bunny to the current vet I…[Read more]

LBJ10 replied to the topic Diarrhea from transitioning to new pellets? in the forum DIET & CARE 4 years, 10 months ago
Hazel makes a good point. A rich diet (alfalfa-based) can cause excess cecotrope production. Sometimes this isn’t really an issue and will resolve once the bunny is transitioned to a grass hay-based diet. However, some bunnies can get excess cecotropes that are mushy and it can cause poopy butt.

There are some suggested questions to ask potential vets in this thread:
They can help you determine if the vet knows rabbits and is qualified to perform a spay.

Thank you so much!! Well I wish your bunny all the best too once they are spayed ^_^ ,, I do have one cage (not sure about the exact measurements but he can stand on his hind legs too and also have enough room for him to hop maybe 2-3 steps each time) since my mom bought it, thinking he could sleep in it but he does not haha he would just bite the…[Read more]

Ask as many questions you want!
A newly spayed bun should be in a cageor a small pen, preferably. For boys this isnt needed, since boys’ neuter-incisions are small and heal quickly. For girls it is however important. I am getting my girl spayed next months and plan to keep her in a cage for at least a week after. The cage I have is 0.5 × 1 meter…[Read more]

So you’re transitioning from Timothy pellets to Alfalfa pellets? If you’re unhappy with the quality of the old pellets I would switch him to Oxbow adult pellets at this point. What breed is he? At his age he doesn’t need Alfalfa pellets, unless he’s a giant breed, once they stop growing there’s no need for Alfalfa at all. Eating both Alfalfa hay…[Read more]

Spaying a female rabbit is a lot more invasive than neutering a boy. So you need to find a vet who has done many stays and has the right equipment to properly sedate the bun. The risks are higher than with a male neuter, but so are the risks if you don’t spay. Single males are neutered mostly for the owner’s convenience, female rabbits are…[Read more]
