Are you sure they have ear mites? Dandruff is normally associated with fur mites. Do they have crusts in their ears? Black “specks” way down in the ear would be more early stages. Your vet should be able to properly prescribe something, even if they are doubtful that it’s ear mites. With topical treatments, there’s no harm done if it turns out not…[Read more]

Hi everyone,
I’m pretty sure my 2/ 5month old mini lops have ear mites. They display all the signs of it such as head shaking, bald patches on ears, constantly grooming and scratching ears.
My black female has it worse and I think it started out with her having it first because I can see so much dandruff on her black fur compared to my broken…[Read more]

Considering it sounds like you recently received her, I would say a vet visit, even if nothing is particularly wrong, would be good to get a baseline. It does look dirty? but honestly hard to assess anything w/ a photo of private areas unless it’s very significant, as usually some palpitation and expression of that area is required to get a full…[Read more]

Thank you for trying to help and taking the time to provide this information. Going to stick with the bene-bac as they seem to be doing ok on it and have made it to day 5. I did manage to get two of them to pee a tiny bit but it took minutes of tapping, we keep trying though. Thanks everyone !

Many people do report good effects of Benebac for rabbits. It has enterococchus faecium, which is a bacterium that is highly prevalent in the healthy bunny gut. Most lactobacilli are not believed to survive the very acid environment of the rabbit stomach, but that goes for adult rabbits – in baby buns those bacteria have a better chance of…[Read more]

So I have had male rabbits in the past but never a female and I don’t want to make a vet appointment if this is perfectly normal. She eats perfectly normal, drinks about half her bowl a day, LOVES her hay. All her poops are normal, she plays and runs and tosses her toys around. No discharge, no watery eyes, no runny nose. But her butt looks like t…[Read more]

Thanks using Bene-bac , the only thing I could find local. I did see a discussion some people claimed the formula changed years ago and it does not work, but felt it may be better than not having anything as other claimed success with it. I was not sure about brewers yeast, is that something I can just get any brewers yeast at the store?

What probiotic are you using? Certain strands of live saccharomyces cerevisiae (brewer’s yeast) has been shown to improve weight gain and gut health in baby rabbits.
The pH in the baby bunny stomach is higher than in the stomach of an adult bun, because the baby is supposed to get healthy gut microbes from suckling their mum. This means the…[Read more]

Yes, rapidly developing cataracts and incontinence are typical signs of e cuniculi. Treatment consists of 28 days of Panacir (fenbendazole). It’s a slow acting drug and it wont cure the cataracts. The Pancur is often combined with metacam (meloxicam) to alleviate the tissue inflammation caused by the e c.
Some vets will treat on symtoms only,…[Read more]

I would like to add what I observed when she mounted him and also stole the food. She pins her ears back, which I reckon is a sign of aggression. This morning, as well, she pins her ears back in her demands for grooming. She ran after him a bit, nibbling him, pinning her ears back, demanding to be groomed a few times by forcing her head down,…[Read more]

Thank you for the link, Yes I’ve been unable to find a rehab center as of yet but am trying, the doors were locked and closed when I went and another one said they they are too full to take any new intakes. In the interim we are just trying to keep them alive.
