Hi there, I’m a little confused. Did you go through the bonding process with them? Do you ever see them cuddle or groom each other? That means supervised dates in a neutral territory. If they have only been interacting in non-neutral territory that would explain a lot, but it’s also a good sign because you haven’t described any fighting. It’s…[Read more]

Thank you so much for your reply it has made me feel a little bit better. I think there was probably something wrong but we will never know what. I’m just glad she’s not suffering and I like to think she’s back with our other rabbit Honey now.

Hello,
We had one female last year around 5 years for a trial adoption, but at the time, my rabbit boy 9 years wasn’t neutered. They liked each other; he would always lay close to her, she as well, and he groomed her, but when he wanted to play, due to his hormones, she ran away and was scared. That is why we gave her back, as I did not expect to…[Read more]

Hi everyone!
I have a 2 years old lop girl named Misso, and about a day ago, i noticed little whistle noises on her breathing, very discreetly, but i got concerned.
I haven’t noticed any white or yellow thick discharge coming out of her nostrils, but they’re a bit damp. I took some pictures (which she wasn’t happy about) and i think that maybe…[Read more]

I think you made the right decision, it does sound like she was declining rapidly and something quite serious was wrong. It’s hard to know exactly what happened, but often when a rabbit starts to “crash” it can look like other common issues at first (lack of appetite, lethargy). Then things just get worse and worse very quickly, which sounds like…[Read more]

Hello
Sadly we had our rabbit Blossom who was 7 put to sleep last week and I can’t stop feeling guilty about it . We also lost our other rabbit Honey only 3 months ago.
When I got up and went out to feed Blossom on Thursday morning I noticed she hadn’t eaten her vegetables from the night before which is very unlike her. I fed her pellets and…[Read more]

I agree it sounds like a gas episode. Gas can become severe, but it can also resolve. A good rule of thumb is to start worrying if it doesn’t resolve in a few hours after a tummy rub.
One comment though, you mentioned “no signs of pain”. Not eating and not wanting to run around IS a sign of pain.
I have one bun who is prone to this, so whenever…[Read more]

Agree that is far too many pellets. I only give my buns about a tablespoon each, once per day. They are more like a multivitamin and a treat than a staple. Adult rabbits really don’t need a lot of pellets. They are likely not eating hay because they are holding out for pellets.
You can try incorporating some timothy cubes as well to get more…[Read more]

If it’s just a little bit of gas discomfort, then yes, it can go away on it’s own. Some people will help things along by giving belly rubs and simethicone. Not all “gas pain” is the same in rabbits. They can have a mild upset that resolves within a few hours. Or it can be so bad that it eventually leads to stasis because they stop eating for an…[Read more]

Unless they are a giant breed, that is too many pellets already. Assuming they are consuming equal amounts of that ration, that is 2/3 a cup each. I agree with Wick that you should cut that down some and encourage more hay consumption. If they aren’t fans of Timothy hay, you can try something else like orchard grass or oat hay.

Hay is the number one food in the rabbit diet that contributed to longevity and health. The amount of pellets is based on the rabbit’s weight, and beyond that, they should eat hay for the rest of the day, therefore never go hungry as there should be an unlimited supply.
Too much pellets can often be a cause of GI distress because the rabbit fills…[Read more]
