I’m so sorry he’s doing poorly. I hope he can regain some leg function soon and that the pain meds help. I can take a week or two to start seeing any improvements from the Panacur. You do need to keep a really close eye out for urine scald, it can be extremely painful and hard to deal with.

I recommend checking out some housing recommendations on…[Read more]

Just to confirm, are they both neutered?

Are you doing all of the interactions in neutral territory? They should only be allowed to interact in places that are completely neutral, so not within sight of their home areas, or any areas where either bun has been before.

What’s the longest session you’ve had?

In the grand scheme of things 2 weeks is not long! I’ve had a few bonds that took 3-4 months, and the buns were SUPER closely bonded at the end, so don’t worry! If they were fighting before and now are not, that is progress. Patience is really the most important thing.

When I’ve hit plateaus with my buns,…[Read more]

Yeah, I’m so glad that I’ve got the medication and thankfully he absolutely loves it so he’s inhaling it all which is wonderful. However other rabbit is HATING this, she’s anxious that their main hide is now overrun with me and him and the medicine ended up being a huge fight to get in her so feel pretty grim!

    Today isn’t looking brilliant…[Read more]

Actually I’ve noticed this spot maybe a year ago, but i didn’t think it was something serious. Now i see the same spot (hasn’t grown larger) and her skin is not irritated, so it’s in the same state from a year ago. I don’t know if it’s from pulling fur of some kind of alopecia.

It seems that they’re at a stalemate. It’s been 2 weeks now and although they’re doing well all things considered, they’re not really moving forward much now. Will they eventually get over this stalemate or could this possibly be as close as they’ll be? There’s no grooming, no laying beside each other at their x pen fences, no further progress it…[Read more]

Just keep a close watch on her and maybe focus on high-fiber treats to keep her digestive system happy. Hopefully, the blood results will give some clarity soon. Hang in there, and definitely keep us posted on any updates.

Vestibular disease (head tilt) is a classic symptom of EC. However, it is not the only symptom and many bunnies suffering from EC flares do not have head tilt. So I would be concerned if the vet was only looking at the classic symptoms and not the big picture. Hind end weakness is a common symptom and so is incontinence.

If your vet sent you home…[Read more]

Looking at the nice, neat shape of the bald spot… I’m going to say looks self-inflicted. Has she been scratching at all? Or given any indication of irritation or something bothering her? If not, then it may not be mites. The other possibility then would be self mutilation/fur pulling. I had a bunny that would do this when he was stressed. He…[Read more]

Hello again. Fluffo is the bun I had for 2 years. Pepper is the new bun that used to be a school pet. When I first introduced them 2 days ago pepper wasn’t so aggressive. Fluffo humped pepper and pepper humped fluffo back. It was going back and forth. I guess pepper really didn’t like it because he started hiding under the kitchen stands where flu…[Read more]

It could be from a few different things like over-grooming, mites, or even a skin infection. Since she’s an indoor bunny, mites might be less likely, but it’s still possible. I’d recommend getting it checked out by a vet to be sure. In the meantime, keep an eye on her behavior and see if she’s licking or biting that spot a lot.

Ah whoops, I knew I forgot some bits! Thank you so much about the advice for the CT scan to shop around. It made me feel comfortable to say right now. Let’s not do it at that one because it was like five hours drive. The bunnies were really stressed just coming back from the vets and it was like the 20 minute drive. He’s not on ant…[Read more]

Hi all, thank you again for all of your messages. I’m like drinking in all of this advice! And so thankful to have you all here, my mum just keeps saying I think it’s time to let him go (it’s been one day!)  I’ve just got back from the vets and he is not in brilliant shape.its  almost like he’s kind of paralysed from from the waist below which…[Read more]

Agree with all of the above, Panacur side effects are rare. If the vet is not sure about treating it, I would find another vet. Most rabbit savvy vets will treat on suspicion without even testing, because the tests are often unreliable. I had to switch vets because my vet was under-dosing both the Panacur and meloxicam. Thankfully you can get…[Read more]

There is a risk of bone marrow suppression with Panacur (fenbendazole), but it is a rare side effect. I only know of one bun here that got bone marrow suppression, it was from oxybendazole (another bendazole). They had to stop the treatment for a while before they could continue it. Because as Em says, ec needs to be treated. Panacur is often…[Read more]

Yeah definitely don’t beat yourself up, it is very frequently misdiagnosed! The main thing is he’s getting the help he needs now,  and it’s good to hear that he’s at least up and moving even if a bit wobbly.

the risk of side effects from panacur are no where near as high as the risk of death from untreated E.cuniculi. Is this a rabbit savvy ve…[Read more]

Hi both, thank you so much this is exactly what I needed to hear!

since posting, I have spoken to the vet and she was actually saying that treatment can be so problematic so wouldn’t blanket treat with panacur unless 100% and she said exactly the same thing even if I brought them in earlier it would’ve been difficult to sort and ID cau…[Read more]

Hello everyone. My bunny has this bald spot on her inner right leg and I was wondering if anyone knows what could be causing this? She is an indoor free roaming bunny and she’s never been outside.

    Thank you in advance.
