DanaNM replied to the topic When really is the best time to try to bond my bunnies? in the forum BONDING 2 years, 11 months ago

One week if def not enough time post-spay. Usually females should be confined for 2 weeks.

The rule of thumb I go off of for when to start bonding is 3 weeks (this is based off practices as the rescue I volunteered at, which has a lot of expereienced bonders). This is enough time for most of the hormones to drain.. and sometimes it seems like a…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic Bonded pair: one becoming aggressive? in the forum BONDING 2 years, 11 months ago

Agree that food aggression happens in some pairs. I have a pair where I am dealing with this as well.

I think it would be good to do some trials of different things to see if you can reduce aggression after training, but if it’s just causing problems it may not be worth the stress. With my two, I try to make a point to wait until they are calm…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic hi! need help on rebonding in the forum BONDING 2 years, 11 months ago

Agree with everything Wick&Fable has said. Keep them separated until they are neutered and hormones have settled (about 3 weeks post-neuter), then you can work on bonding them in a neutral space.

Also wanted to mention that collars are very dangerous for rabbits in general so please don’t put a collar back on either of them.

I’m glad to hear about Luna’s weight! That is so frustrating about the vet and Jasiri. Hopefully time will clear things up.

I’m slowly recovering from covid, picked up on my way home from a trip, after dodging it until now. I’m thankful I got it on the way home at least, rather than on the way too my vacation!

Bun Jovi is hanging in there. I…[Read more]

I’m intrigued to hear how you like it! I have looked into some of these but often they seemed really treat focused rather than toy focused, and I don’t usually give my buns too many treats.

DanaNM replied to the topic Ripping up carpet in the forum HABITATS AND TOYS 2 years, 11 months ago

Hmmmm, the safest thing I can think of if you want to allow more free-roam time is to make a bunny-proof floor on top of the actual floor. For a few months in late 2020 I lived with my in-laws and we wanted to make sure our buns didn’t destroy the carpet in the guest room. I put down a huge plastic sheet (you can get thick plastic sheeting from…[Read more]

Ugh I’m sorry you are having such a hard time finding a vet. 🙁  Unfortunately this is a common situation these days, it seems vets all over are completely overrun, as are the shelters (dealing with the fallout of everyone getting pandemic pets). The best advice I have is pick a vet and make the appointment, even if it’s far in advance. Even if…[Read more]

The triple vaccine makes life a lot easier so I assume that is one vaccine a year?

Well so far its been rather stressful trying to find a vet who will neuter and spay my rabbits. A few vets can do it but are very busy and waiting times are 3 weeks minimal. I went to the RSPCA today to see if I can get at least the male seen too but they wont even…[Read more]

Hi! I have two bunnies both who are mischievous. I moved out of a carpeted apartment in December. I am moving back to a carpeted apartment in just a few weeks. They thoroughly enjoy ripping up carpet. Previously, my only option was to keep them in an xpen while I was sleeping or out of my house but any other time allow them to roam when I can keep…[Read more]

Bought a one time box.  Received today, so still waiting to see how they like it.

But gotta say, it does seem to be a good value.  If they like it, I will definitely subscribe.

I use a toilet paper roll holder turned on it’s side and clipped to the pen walls. I got mine at Marshalls, they usually have an assortment of random ones so you should be able to find one that would work!

DanaNM replied to the topic Need Help – Elder Buns Keep Breaking Bond in the forum BONDING 2 years, 11 months ago

Hmmm this is tough. Without a clear trigger it’s hard to know whether they will have a stable bond again. If the fighting was bad enough that a bun was injured, it will be difficult to repair.

How long were you keeping them in the fold-up pen before moving them back out to their main area? Maybe they just need more time in the neutral space and a…[Read more]

Oh Dana, I’m so sorry!  It could be that — Teddy (who had lost almost all mobility at this point) has a much harder time getting traction than he did before.  Or it could be a bad day for Bun Jovi and maybe better days will be coming?

I’m really sorry.  Do you think a cart or other device would be something he might be up for?  I think we wer…[Read more]

Well I may have spoken too soon, because last night his mobility was terrible. It may have just been because the floor was more slippery but I’m not sure. I’m kind of at a loss. 🙁

This site is the best; I was just panicking about my bun and now these comments have helped me feel better. Thank you guys!! Maybe sharing my situation will help me calm down further. I still feel like I’ve created the worst-case scenario.

My rabbit (Leila) gets eye crusties sometimes. Tonight she had a dried one that took a bit of time and work…[Read more]
