DanaNM replied to the topic Bond Damaged? Drawn out disagreement between two bonded rabbits. in the forum BONDING 2 years, 11 months ago
Could you give me the full run down of all the rabbits in the house and the housing set-up? Having other unbonded rabbits in the house could definitely be the culprit here, even if there haven’t been any major changes in who the rabbits are.
If your pair is interacting with the other rabbits at all that can upset their hierarchy. If any of the…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic If you have lovingly bonded bunnies, how did they react to each other before bond in the forum BEHAVIOR 2 years, 11 months ago
There really isn’t a clear relationship between the initial pre-bonding behaviors and how close the bond is. And a tough bonding process also doesn’t mean they won’t have a good bond (in fact it has often been the opposite in my experience). It is important to pre-bond until you see positive or at least relaxed behavior between them.
I also…[Read more]

I do wonder if the fact that they aren’t bonded could be the cause for a lot of the aggression you are seeing. I saw in the lounge that you added a buffer zone which I think is a good idea.
You could also hang a visual barrier along at least part of the fencing between their areas, so she doesn’t always feel she has to be on guard against Owen. A…[Read more]

Noises are just noises. Some bunnies are very vocal.
Her biting and lunging at you sounds more like a cage aggression issue. Which would fit since it seems pretty clear in the video that she doesn’t like Owen invading her territory. You said she lunges and bites your hands. Is this only when your in her pen? Are you able to work out what might be…[Read more]

I’m sorry to hear about Bun Jovi, hopefully some supplements can help set him on the right track.
Ellie, sorry to hear about Molly’s difficult behaviour, hopefully you can get to the bottom of it.
Weighed Luna again today and she seems to be holding steady, 2095g today, a change of only 5g from almost 2 weeks ago. I might try increasing her…[Read more]

She is doing better in the new setup with her little moat: Owen can’t get close to her, but she can see everything that happens.
I try to do a little relaxation ritual before bed: petting Owen and introducing him to being brushed/combed. He’s taking to it well.
Molly flops as close as she can get, and she starts to purr before he does. I talk…[Read more]

Thank you for your insight! Yes, it’s Molly in the hutch and Owen was out for exercise. It sounded so aggressive to me because of the noise. She gets quite worked up, and growls and hisses at Owen, and at us.
Things are a bit calmer now that we’ve rearranged her space. They stopped eating when we separated them long-term.
Molly has a calmer spot…[Read more]

Yes, it could be, she’s a very anxious rabbit in general.
If it’s caused by anxiety it’s odd that she suddenly switched her style though: she used to withdraw when scared. This lunging, boxing and scratching at everyone is definitely new.
We were aware that she has mood swings and that this makes bonding with Owen difficult. I just never thought…[Read more]

Starlightbunny started the topic Toy recommendations in the forum THE LOUNGE 2 years, 11 months ago
Hello everybody! I haven’t posted in awhile but was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for toys to hang up in Starlight’s pen. She loves to pull and tug toys that are hanging the most out of any toys I give her but I like to get different toys to change it up. Thanks!

You can burrito him in a towel and then just pull the foot out. It wouldn’t be a bad idea to clean it up. However, it may not be necessary. When a nail bleeds, it tends to bleed enough to flush everything out of the wound. The nail may or may not grow back. And if it does grow back, it could grow back crooked. It just depends on how damaged the quick is.

Molly is inside and Owen is outside? I’m not really seeing any fighting in the video. What I see is Owen actively trying to get to Molly from different angles. Molly meets him each time. At one point, it looks like he nips at her rear. She spins around and then there is a little bit of boxing through the bars. To me, it would appear that Owen…[Read more]

You may have some difficulty if there is mounting (which is a normal part of the bonding process). It could trigger a false pregnancy and your female could become aggressive toward your male. This can be very stressful for a bunny, especially if it happens over and over again. Is there a reason that she isn’t spayed? Spaying is highly recommended…[Read more]

LBJ10 replied to the topic Gurgling tummy in the forum DIET & CARE 2 years, 11 months ago
Gurgling noises aren’t necessarily bad. The gut makes noises when it’s working. The antibiotics could have messed up the gut flora a bit, so you may notice some weird poops. As long as she is eating and pooping fine, then I wouldn’t be overly concerned. You could try giving some probiotics to see if that helps.

Making noises doesn’t necessarily indicate anything. Hormonal bunnies will honk and make other noises. Boys and girls both.

Ellie – Could the behavior be anxiety-related? Would she benefit from taking some melatonin? Or even wearing a thunder shirt? Well… if you could fashion one that small, that is.

DanaNM replied to the topic should I screen for EC in Bun Jovi? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 2 years, 11 months ago
He’s pretty good about not peeing on himself because he still lifts his tail and can aim it behind him, so that’s good. And yeah, the balance of good and bad days is hard. 🙁

@Azerane: Whoop, congrats on Luna, and I hope that you’ll get Jasiri’s test results soon! We’re awaiting test results too, and it’s nerve-wracking.
@Dana: hope you’ll get well soon! And I’m really rooting for Bun Jovi’s new treatment.
