That makes me feel better! She still needs me to bug her some but she is starting to eat independently also. I still have to encourage water but I’m hoping to see that pick up soon too

That’s lovely!
I was asking why you suspected a blockage, because blockages in rabbits are a lot more rare than gut motility slowdown. Blockages are a huge lot more serious, but thankfully not very common.
If she didnt eat so much yesterday it’s normal for her to poop less today. This will right itself if she gets her appetite back and starts…[Read more]

She stopped pooping yesterday and was sitting hunched a lot. But she has started to poop again today, just not the usual amount. She did just produce a cecotrope and ended up eating it. So she seems on the mend

It’s difficult to say anything about this without knowing more. What makes you suspect a blockage?

Hi everyone!
My bun Bailey has a minor blockage I think. She is eating just not as much a normal and she is pooping again. I have already given her pumpkin purée and water. This seems to be helping and there is a turn around. But I’m not sure if I should consider this emergency status. Money is tight from unexpected expenses so if I can avoid a…[Read more]

The water-drop shape means a slight gut slowdown. This could be due to dehydration. Maybe he’s just not drinking more than normal butr eats a lot more of this apparently very yummy hay?
Any change of diet incl a change in type of hay can change the look and amount of poop. Sometimes just temporarily, sometimes the change is a direct effect of the…[Read more]

The disturbance can happen for many reasons, for example stress. It doesnt have to be “severe” stress. Stress changes the pH in the cecum, and the microbes in the cecum are dependant on a fairly stable pH. Pain (of any origin, f ex tooth/mouth pain) is of course a stressor.
The best way to get the GI tract back into good working order is…[Read more]

Thank you both so much. I am 95% it is teeth because of how he twisted and dangled the hay in his mouth and then drop it. Also, when I would rub the back of his cheeks he would flinch. Does the disturbance of the gut start the same way where he stops eating hay out of the blue? How is this treated and prevented from happening?

Bam replied to the topic Rabbit Diarrhea HELP!!!! in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 2 years, 7 months ago
It has to do with a disturbance in the gut microbiota, i e all the various bacteria and yeasts (funghi) that the rabbit gut is highly dependant on for it’s proper function. This disturbance could be at the root of his appetite loss, or it could be an effect of the gi stasis. This is not uncommon in rabbits that are being treated for GI-stasis, but…[Read more]

Cecal dysbiosis can present this way. Sometimes you won’t see much of what resembles “regular” poop.
