Rainn started the topic To Trim or Not to Trim? in the forum DIET & CARE 2 years, 7 months ago
Hello, so the last time Rain had issues it was due to molar spurs. A few weeks after getting them trimmed she developed an abscess, either due to a preexisting infection or some scrape caused by surgical tools. Luckily, her abscess cleared up completely after weeks of draining and an injection of amikacin. It was incredibly lucky since many…[Read more]

Hi DanaNM,
Thank you so much for taking the time to read and respond to my post! Buddy was taking 0.20cc (100 mg/ml) of Fenbendazole once daily for 28 days. He was on two rounds of Fenbendazole, once in September and once in November, with still no changes in his e cuniculi numbers. Our vet mentioned that depending on how severe the e cuniculi…[Read more]

Has anyone used the Canawick Hardwood pellets as litter? Or can they be used in a fireplace only?

I too use pine pellets. They are more absorbant than paper litter, but they compost a great deal slower, so they’re not a good option if you’re planning to dispose of the litter in a compost bin.

You’re all so sweet 🙁 Thank you all for your responses. This forum has helped me so much in finding information & I finally decided to make an account because I wanted to hear people’s views on neuters because of my experience. I know that the outcome could have been inevitable but I felt that maybe the tests would have shown something & if the…[Read more]

Agreed, I use pine pellets (I get mine from a random feed shop). Unlike pine shavings they are safe to use, and they are the most affordable option I’ve found!

I’m so sorry for your loss. Reactions to anesthesia are very rare, but they do happen. Even in people. He was a beautiful bun. You were doing the right thing by having him neutered, especially since you wanted to get him a friend.

Most people enjoy the Tractor Supply Co pine pellet litter (US) which is sold 40lb for $6-7. If your rabbit begins eating it or there are concerns about comfort (they are hard pellets that breakdown when wet), you can put a litter screen on top.

I’m very sorry for your loss, and it makes sense that this terrible experience generates hesitation to consider neutering another rabbit. As Bam mentions, rabbit anesthesia combined with a healthy rabbit and experienced rabbit vet is very safe, but there are sometimes things we cannot foresee, even with doing bloodwork or things ahead of time. It…[Read more]

I’m very sorry you lost Milo. He was beautiful.
Rabbit anaesthesia is a lot safer nowadays than it used to be, but adverse reactions still occur, albeit rarely.
Testicular cancer can develop spontaneously. It’s not a common form of cancer in rabbits, and the reason why the incidence has risen these last few years is simply that rabbits live…[Read more]

I have 2 rabbits at home and they produce so much waste that paper bedding that I buy from Petsmart is getting expensive. What other alternatives are there that is more affordable?
