It really does sound like there was something wrong with Judy from the start. It’s not possible to say what of course, but something that was already there when you got her.
Try to not blame yourself. We always do feel some sort of guilt though, but it doesn’t mean you have reason to. It’s normal to feel it though, but it just means you care a…[Read more]

I’m sorry you lost Judy. Honestly, I think you did your best and there was just something very wrong with her. From the sound of it, she was doing poorly from the beginning. Perhaps she didn’t get the proper nutrition as a very young bunny and her gut bacteria didn’t fully establish.

Hello everyone. Two months ago, I lost my Netherland Dwarf to GI Stasis. The vet my sister works with, who I took him to for cremation, said that it was probably caused by a tumor or a blood clot. The day he passed, I look into his cage in the morning and knew he was sick, everyone else in my family said he looked okay but I could tell something…[Read more]

I wouldn’t feed that, the black spots are some kind of fungus. It might not be toxic, it could be harmless but I’m very much for “better safe than sorry” when it comes to buns.
Willow is best in spring/early summer, when the leaves are fresh and green. Later in the season they can become hosts to various types of funghi aka “rust”, especially…[Read more]

Hi, does anyone know if this willow is safe to feed to my buns. I snipped it from a wetland wildlife reserve so it shouldnt be sprayed with anything etc, but it looks like the tree could have some kind of disease? There are these patches of blackish mossy looking sections on the otherwise yellowish twigs, many of the leaves have black spots too……[Read more]

this is a really tough call and you may need to trust your gut on this. I would have expected to see some progress by now. There are some pairs that aren’t as close. Do they seem very comfortable around each other? If one rabbit gets in the other’s space, does it cause issues, or does one rabbit avoid the other? Those would be red flags to look…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic Baytril dosage for netherland dwarf in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 11 months, 2 weeks ago
i don’t think so, but be sure to get back on the dosage that was prescribed, and let your vet know right away if symptoms get worse or haven’t resolved by the end of the course. You may need to ask for a bit more antibiotic, because you will want to give the full dose for the length of time prescribed. Since you used some of the medication at a…[Read more]

Just to ease any general concerns you may have, 3.5lbs is actually on the larger size for a Netherland Dwarf. My ND was barely 2lbs and was on Baytril twice a day for roughly 4 months— no problems whatsoever. As others have said, just give as the vet prescribed to ensure your rabbit is getting the proper treatment.

Hi again,
We are unfortunately still in the same spot. I tried some bathtub sessions – they just huddle together but don’t do much else. I took them to work, and they spent the day together in peace, eating together and sitting next to each other. However, at home, Eloise is still chasing Penelope a few times daily. They don’t cuddle at all, and…[Read more]

I’ve been giving it once a day for about two days. That’s not enough to cause antibiotic resistance right?

LBJ10 replied to the topic Baytril dosage for netherland dwarf in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 11 months, 2 weeks ago
I agree. Based on the information you provided, the dosage the vet prescribed is within the recommended dosage range for Baytril. It is recommended that you stick with what your vet prescribed. Not giving enough of an antibiotic can prevent it from successfully clearing the infection. And, as Dana pointed out, it can encourage antibiotic…[Read more]

You can try mixing with some mashed banana, that often works!

When you don’t give the full dose, some of the bacteria will survive that are naturally more resistant (just due to natural variation in their genes). Those bacteria go on to reproduce and take over.

I did and they don’t unfortunately. I wonder if they sell flavors OTC.

I second trying a lint roller! For some of my buns that’s the only thing that works!

You can also ask your vet if the can compound the medication with a better flavor. My vet used to make up fruit flavored antibiotics for my buns.
