my bunny is 11 months old and has sore hocks already. He has a memory foam mat with a soft blanket on top for flooring. He already has sore hocks and I’m not sure what to do about it. I’ve tried numerous different floorings with my previous rabbit and I thought I finally found the right one, but I guess it’s not padded enough? I know that mini…[Read more]

If the cord is close enough to the barrier, they always seem to find a way to get it through the bars.

Yes, I tried switching their litterboxes but that’s about it.

Thank you for the reassurance about if I need to rehome him, I would feel very guilty.
We decided to go forward with attempting to bond (the right way this time!).

I think we will get a second pen for this reason exactly! We had baby gates but Gus chewed through them and without a second pen it’s impossible to separate them at the moment.

Ok, I have shower curtains for them already.
Almost all the girls I’ve had are destructo-maniacs. I keep saying, no more girls… Omg, as I was typing this, she killed my laptop charger. It was “blocked off” but stuck her nose/mouth in and in a 2secs, dead.

I was thinking that, too. Maybe you could cover it with something old or a shower curtain/vinyl tablecloth when you aren’t able to supervise.
She sounds like our girl, Georgia. I’m pretty sure nothing makes her happier than destruction lol! If I scold her for chewing something she shouldn’t, she skips and binkies away, like its a game. We always…[Read more]

There’s the old shower curtain trick. It’s used for bunnies that like the pee on the bed, but I think it would work for digging too. Or at least it would slow her down enough that you would have time to intervene.

My little girl loves digging and nibbling; she even nibbles her friends… Over time, she has stopped doing this to the flooring in her housing area since I lay small pieces of cardboard around and at one point, some old clothing. This is actually not a good thing because she actually eats everything she nibbles on leaving no crumbs (already…[Read more]

It can be challenging to find neutral space with a free roam bun, so sometimes you have to think outside the box. I’ve had good luck in the past with using the bathtub (although a shower stall would work, too, if you can block off the front). Its just awkward and stressful enough that it encourages the buns to seek comfort from one another. And it…[Read more]

Buns can still have a great relationship after horrible fights in bonding. I’ve had an incident that lead to surgery but the boys quickly became BFFs. They actually became BFFs before I even found out about the issue. Unless the buns are doing meet/greet/speed dating, I am usually very involved when I bond being in the same pen as the buns until I…[Read more]

If you’re willing to wait it out, it would be worth trying again, especially with more knowledge on bonding.
For starters though, I’d wipe the slate clean, give them time apart, and spend much more time in prebonding before moving forward with dates and such. Also, as you mention, neutrality is very important, so maintaining the eventual space…[Read more]

BrunosMama replied to the topic How to tell if rescue bun is neutered in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 7 months, 3 weeks ago
No, it wasn’t with the shelter, but its not their fault. We originally had him scheduled with them (they were happy to do it for free since they had missed it), but we had the flu and couldn’t make the 4 hour drive that day (its 2 hrs each way). And since then, the weather here has been super cold, snowy, and icy. So, I checked with a local…[Read more]

Hi all,
Gus: 4 y.o male, neutered at around 1 year old. Holland lop. Free roam of the house minus the bedroom.
Max: 2 y.o male, neutered around 3ish months ago. Rex mix. Kept in VERY large pen (enough room to run and binky).
Background: Gus has had 3 failed bonding attempts with females, though they were never super aggressive towards each…[Read more]

Yes, but it was pretty much like a spay. 😯
I’m glad to hear Arthas is doing well for the most part and he finally got his neuter done. Was this done by the shelter vet so you didn’t have to pay? It was their mistake, so I do hope so. Boys usually bounce back pretty quickly, but if they had to do more then it could mean a longer recovery. Things…[Read more]

On a side note, does anyone have any experience with getting a cryptorchid bun neutered? I know it can be more invasive depending on how far they have to search for the undescended testicle.
I checked Arthas’s incisions today, and everything looks good. All clean, no redness or swelling. But he seems to be bouncing back slower than I…[Read more]

Update!
Arthas finally got his neuter done on Wednesday! We had to cancel his original appointment due to us being sick. But, he did well with the surgery. It turns out one of his testicles could not descend properly (cryptorchid?) So he needed a little extra work to get that taken care of. That would explain why I could only find one when I…[Read more]
