Could he have a hearing problem? Lops are prone. Deaf/hard of hearing buns can get scared easily by things they see, typically fast moving things, because they can’t hear them coming. By choosing to stare at the wall he could be trying to eliminate scary visual stimuli?
Lops are prone to ear infections, which can heal on their own so the owner…[Read more]

I wouldn’t call it senile– it’s not a word that could apply to rabbits. It’s likely boredom and lack of environmental stimulation.
Some rabbits need more stimulation than others. This can mean rearranging the space, making food and hay puzzles, etc.

Awwww, cute buns! <3
Our two boys live in their own room (in our computer room) and the cats aren’t allowed in there. But occasionally, Julius (our big kitty) will get the door open and all 3 cats will go inside. I’ve noticed that the bunny boys will get cranky afterwards and spat with each other for a short time after.
Also, sometimes if they…[Read more]

When he stares at the wall like that, is his nose moving? He could just have fallen asleep with his eyes open.
Nearly every lop we have had has exhibited this sort of behavior at one point or another. Not so much with the uppy ears. I just assumed maybe it was a lop thing, as they tend to be more chill. Sometimes they just stare off, as in deep…[Read more]

I don’t think he is losing his vision… he knows where his food and water is no problem and always seems to run over to me to say hi. I thought about that, but I don’t think it’s his vision.

That’s so sweet! I’m glad to hear they are getting along well. At least for the most part…
Bunnies will react differently to dogs. Some really don’t seem to care and others do. It can be a source of stress and sometimes bonded bunnies will act out when there is stress. Since this little dog isn’t going to be a permanent resident, it’s probably…[Read more]

They were bonded well and spend most time near each other, I don’t see the humping any more too. Thanks again for all the help and support!
Minor problem I need advice on. I got a Chihuahua dog to take care of for ~2 weeks. The dog is in a separate, closed room all the time and it is a very well-behaved dog. Only when I take him out, I take him…[Read more]

Thought – How is his vision? One of my bunnies started to act this way when his vision started getting worse as he aged.

Hello everyone. I have a 5 and a half year old neutered male holland lop mix named Paisley. Over the past 6 months, I believe he is in the beginning phases of going senile. For example, he will sit and face the corner of his hutch and just stare at the corner. He has more behavior which seems to indicate he just isn’t as sharp as he once was. I…[Read more]

What is she doing when you hear the clicking? Is her jaw moving? Bunnies will click their teeth together when they are happy and relaxed. They call it “purring”.

Yaaay! Probably gas then, when it gets out buns tend to just snap back immediately, like nothing even happened.
It’s very scary for the human though. I think most of us bun parents suffer from some degree of bun-induced PTSD.

I agree it sounds like gas. Try to get him to move, it helps gas move through. Be gentle but firm, he should move some every 20 minutes or so until this passes.
You can give simethicone baby gas drops. 1 ml first, then O.5 ml of whatever strenght you can get (tends to be 20-40%).
Don’t force food. Water can be given but no more than 2 ml per 1-2…[Read more]

It sounds like it could be gas. At least our bunnies usually lay flat like that when they have gas. Its good to get him to move around, as it can help it work through his tummy.
Is he eating ok? Thats also usually another sign if he is not.
Do you have simethicone drops on hand? You can find them in the baby section of most grocery/department…[Read more]

My 2 year old rabbit was his normal self until tonight when I gave him his 2nd round of dry food.
he has been laying in his litter box not eating. Ears feel cool. He is an indoor rabbit. He has been laying flat on his belly.
I got him to move around but still not eating and went back in his litter box.Last night my daughter accidentally dropped…[Read more]

Bam replied to the topic Okay to feed Gus veggies & pellets together, once a day? in the forum DIET & CARE 2 weeks ago
You can. If he has hay and water the rest of the time, he’s all set. I have to do that now bc my little boy Lage was deemed fat by the vet at his recent vaccination appt. So now it’s hay only with a once daily snack of fresh grass. (I do sneak his bonded partner some pellets, because she isn’t fat.)
It’s great for the whole of Gus if he eats a…[Read more]

We have done both with our buns (spaced out and together) and I find the buns don’t care as they like getting food whenever they can lol. But in my human brain, its nice to spread things out a little, but it doesn’t have to be a whole day apart. 🙂

I don’t think it would matter too much. I may not give the pellets and veggies together just because it’s nice to space things out. But I don’t think it’s necessary to have such a large gap either. You can always try a different schedule and see how it goes.
