**Warning:  An unrequested lesson on wombats ahead**

The Wombat (Vombatus ursinus) is a mammal native to Australia.  It has a stout body, a large blunt head, short, muscular neck and stubby, powerful legs.  They also have sharp rodent-like incisor teeth to chew through roots, they are great diggers/burrowers.  They are mainly crepuscular and nocturnal and survive on a herbivore diet of grasses, herbs, bark and roots.  Their fur colour can be a light brown to brown – grey and even black.  They are commonly pictured as grey-brown coloured.

Here is an image of a Wombat

*Disclaimer: The species Oryctolagus cuniculus (namely Rumballas incognitus) was used as a stand in for the Vombatus ursinus in this picture.  The owner of this picture lays no claim to owning a Wombat and furthermore, lays no claim to sanity at the time of posting this thread. :)

Rumball’s in that picture?? *peers closer* Why so he is! Nice camouflage! ^_^
I just saw a PBS special that included Tasmanian Devils last night and how they are being bred in zoos because they are victims of some kind of mouth cancer (probably squamos cell-lost a good cat to that) and they are dropping in numbers.

Wouldn’t want to find a Taz in my backyard, tho’… 0_o

Took me a few times to read the replies and see the joke was understood (I think!) It is so hard to pick up tone in text! Wish I had the photo back at April 1st.

I just couldn’t get over how much he looked like a wombat.  I should mispronounce my R’s and call him Womball. (anyone remember The Wombles?)
