        Hi all,

I’m looking to purchase hay in bulk, and am looking for storage solutions that are pleasing to the eye, lol.

I’m thinking plastic bins, I live in a super dry climate nowadays (desert portion of CA), so humidity isn’t an issue nor is sunlight as I plan to keep it indoors away from windows.

More specifically, I’m looking for bin suggestions. I have no idea how many bins I would need or how large they should be to store a 50lb hay bale. If it helps, dimensions while condensed are: H 16′, L 12′, W 24′.

Bonus points if I don’t need to spend $200+ on the bins, but am willing if it’s worth it.

        Thank you!

-Raelinn (and Gus thanks you too)

I assume you want a lid? You can find stuff like this on Amazon, etc.

Hi! I recently ordered some airtight boxes for my hay from chewy.com! They have a lot of different sizes and they have wheels so you can roll them around. I don’t know what country your in, so I don’t know which ones would ship to you but there are quite a few options and a lot of good sizes for pretty cheap.

I got one for hay and one for pellets and they’re super good and keep all the smell in, and don’t look too bad either. The shipping was also SUPER fast.

            I have this one:

            they have bigger sizes too

They obviously do not look as aesthetic as LBJ10’s suggestion which I’m super impressed by, but they don’t look bad at all and blend into my home, nut that’s mostly because almost everything is also white.

I know they’re not the best looking but I would rlly recommend them compared to regular rectangular storage bins

Edited by LBJ10 to add picture.

Really any bin will do! You don’t actually want it to be airtight, some airflow helps prevent mold.

Hay bales can vary a bit in size, but I store a standard hay bale divided between a large rubber maid tub and two 13 gal plastic trash cans from ikea. I keep the trash cans next to my bun’s pens for easy refills. Each of the smaller bins fits about 1 flake of hay. I sometimes have a bit of overlflow that I just put in a trashbag and use that first.
