Hey all I’m having an emergency situation this morning. My bunny got into some chocolates from Christmas and ended up eating about half of a Christmas edition Hershey kisses, the white chocolate and peppermint ones. She’s a 3 pound Holland lop, she’s been eating hay and her breakfast salad since but I’m very worried. I tried calling all the vets in my area that are rabbit savy but everyone is closed. Help! Will my rabbit be okay?

White chocolate contains only very small amounts of theobromine, the component in chocolate that is toxic to rabbits (and dogs). So if the chocolate was white, it won’t harm her like dark or milk chocolate could.

She is likely to get a bit of stomach upset from eating a lot of sugar. Keep an eye, if you have baby gas drops (simethicone) you can give that if you suspect she’s feeling uncomfortable. You may see some weird poop, perhaps extra cecals or sticky poop. Plenty of hay and water will help get her tummy back in order, buy it can take a few days.
