I’m looking at different farms as a source of hay for my rabbit and the one I’m considering is a hay mix created for horses and rabbits.  The farmer told me it’s 40% alfalfa in a bale, is that too much for my adult rabbit?

        Thanks,

        Sage

Adult buns shouldn’t have any alfalfa on a regular basis (although a tiny amount as a treat is OK), their hay should be all grass hays (timothy, orchard, oat, rye, bermuda are all good). So yes, 40% alfalfa would be too much.

Yeah, that’s an awful lot of alfalfa. As Dana said, you can give it to adult rabbits as a treat. It should not make up the bulk of the hay they are eating.
