So I have a five-ish month old female Holland lop. She’s not spayed yet but I’m looking into places to get that done within the next few months. I’ve been trying for about a month now to litter train her, but with no luck. I’ve definitely seen some improvement, I think she might get the idea that I want her to go in the box but it just seems like she just doesn’t want to.
This really only became an issue when she decided that the corner of the floor right next to my bed (which is carpeted) is where she’s going to pee(and leave piles of poop) every. single. time. I’ve tried to clean up the pee with toilet paper and put it in her litter box so that she can smell it in there. I’ve also consistently cleaned the spot on the rug and wherever else she pees with white vinegar to get rid of the smell. I don’t always catch her when she does it right away but when I do, I try to make a loud kind of noise (almost like a shriek?) and pick her up and put her in the litter box along with her poop and pee and a lot of the time she watches me do it out of curiosity. I’m not sure what to do anymore, it doesn’t seem like anything is working. Should I just give up and wait until she is spayed?
Also, the litter box is sitting inside of her cage which I leave open while she is out and about and she often goes in and out of it as she pleases – could it just be an inconvenience thing? Like, she doesn’t want to walk all the way over to her cage to the litter box to go? I’m getting a second litter box delivered to my house tomorrow – it’s a little bigger and I’m going to try to put it right in the corner that she insists on going in. I don’t know what else to do!
Any suggestions??
