I’m really starting to struggle with names here. For those who may not know we’re getting a new kitten in 3 weeks. He’s a boy and you can see his pic and one with his siblings in the chat thread here: https://binkybunny.com/FORUM/tabid/54/aft/168893/afpg/2/Default.aspx
Imagine a cat that’s a beautiful deep rusty colour with black ticking and the tail of a fox. That’ll be my boy when he’s all grown up
I have always wanted to name a cat Simba, and really this is my chance, but I just don’t know if it’s him. I’m sure I’d get used to it and the name would attach to him eventually, but I’m just not sure.
Hubby is bad at getting back to me with name ideas so that’s where you guys come in
My few other thoughts so far:
Ember (hubby didn’t like this one)
Linden (after a dragon character in a book, but also red like Linden berries)
Fox/Little Fox, or something Fox-related or fox character names
Finnick
Quill
…and that’s all I’ve got for now. Jasiri’s name is Swahili so something that matches with that is another option. Fox in Swahili is mbweha which isn’t exactly catchy, haha.
I might have to browse through some books for character names.
I really love Ember! But I love anything related to fire. There’s so much energy behind it. I also really like Fox because he kinda looks like a fox.
Ooooh, I didn’t know you were getting a new kitty!!! What beautiful colours!!!
What about Mischal, which means “Torch” in Arabic? Or “Todd” which means Fox?
EEEEEEE! So cute!
I like Finnick! Although he does look very wild, so Simba would be cute!
If you wanna go with the Swahili/ Lion King theme, Rafiki might suit him more (I also tend to like names that end in “I” for cats), and means “friend”!

Okay, some more suggestions!
Kion (Lions guard)
Djimon (Swahili name)
Swahili words
Tamu (sweet)
Kutu (rust)
Tamaa (covet)
Moyo (heart)
Tamani (yearn)
Taka (desired)
Somali words
Riyo (the dream)
Casaan (red)
Jacyl (love) kinda cool because jackal is like fox also.
I really like Djimon! It is meant to mean “one who has strong blood; powerful person”.
http://www.momjunction.com/baby-names/swahili/boy/
OMG so cute! I am terrible at names my cats are literally Popcorn (because he’s white), Tiger (because he’s orange), and Little Miss (because she’s small and female) LOL.
But I love Ember, Little Fox, Finnick, and Tamu.
Mulder!!!
Sorry, couldn’t resist. ;p
No new suggestions here but choosing the ones I like out of the names given so far. Basically concurring with Dana. I like Finnick and Simba. Finnick sounds foxy to me because of the “F” I suppose. Foxy Finnick. Finnick the fox. Phoenix the fox. Felix the cat! (Kidding…does anyone remember that black and white cartoon cat ages ago? Felix the cat, the wonderful, wonderful cat…)
Jameel is beautiful…
Aaagni … is a type of fire
Laal is red
Char just because it sounds cool if we are talking dragons
And I will be back with more
Tom as in Tom Kitten?
Or Yoshi as in dragon?
Thank you for all the suggestions. My apologies I hadn’t gotten back to this thread before now. I’m still completely undecided.
On the plus side, we are visiting today That will hopefully give me a better idea of his personality and I think getting to try out the names on him will help me decide whether I like them or not Will have to add a few to my list after reading through this thread
Here he is last week One more week until he comes home!!
Beautiful! I love the dark pointed accents under and around his eyes. I’m leaning more towards Simba now.
Mulder, definitely looks like a Fox Mulder. Just saying.
Our visit went great ? They have grown so much and his personality is really starting to come through. He’s the reserved one of the litter and sits back to watch and contemplate rather than jumping straight in like his sisters. I think he’ll be a real sweetheart and slightly less rambunctious than Jasiri. He was reluctant to be picked up but once I had him in my arms he settled down quite nicely for a little cuddle and seems to like me well enough.
Still completely undecided on names. Hubby is starting to prefer Kion to match with Jasiri, but I just don’t know. Maybe I could just give him five names to cover all my bases.
Well, you know what my name suggestion is!
Besides Tod, I got Shippo (fox demon from Inuyasha) and Tomoe, also a fox demon. Also, not fox related, but I do like Spencer for a red cat.
Oh my god, he’s SO CUTE!!!
Beautiful!!!!!
Mulder isnt bad. No-sirree? (To go with Yasiri of course. But perhaps not.)
He’s so pretty it almost hurts!
How do you like Vos? (The o is short) It’s Dutch for fox, and the word sounds like the movement of a fast air current.
Ooh, I do like Vos. Another one to add to the list I’ve been considering Tamu as well, otherwise at this current point in time Quill has been pulling at me more than the other names. Hubby suggested Flynn, which is nice but not sure it’s right.
Also Spencer is cute People names for animals are fun
Also Spencer is cute People names for animals are fun
Agreed!!!! I have a Kyle, Elara, Fae (short for Fable) and a Fergus.
Jasiri and Simba. Absobloominlutely !!!!!
Simba it is for me.
He actually looks like a Steve !!
Just having fun now.
Still like Simba (high five to Vienna). He looks like a cat’s cat and definitely has some royalty about his appearance.
There is Phoenix but spelled Fenix because of F for fox. Combining the fire/flame theme and fox themes…..
And finally Zeus. Little Zeus. He definitely looks supreme after all.

Jasiri and Simba. Absobloominlutely !!!!!Simba it is for me.

You say Steve, and the first thing I think of is this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gjs43yQtwfI
I think Quill is sticking for now. Still not 100% certain but I keep getting pulled back to it.
I think I got my little man’s pictures mixed up on the previous page with the one I added. His sisters each have a different coloured collar, but I recall now when we went to visit, one of his sisters was missing her collar, and in some of the photos there is clearly a girl with the yellow collar, but in other photos only two of the girls have collars. I think I may have added a pic of one of his cheeky sisters Oh well, they all look mostly the same, lol. He’s darker than his sisters in person (or is it in cat?)
Jasiri and Quill……. quite hard saying QU-ill…. even with me putting on my Aussie accent….
It’ll stick or it’ll change… Strainer drainer, tomarto, tomayto…..
Since you will have 2 cats, will you have to upgrade cat tree / climbing apparatus? Because…
Isn’t ths amazing?!!!! I want it for the rabbits! This is a custom made piece by Robert Rogalski.
I think ‘Mr. Kitten’ has a nice ring to it… but Quill is pretty cool too.
Jersey, I would get a cat just as an excuse to have that in my house, it’s amazing!
The Irish word for fox is Sionnach. That’s also kinda cool. Pronounced she-un-ack.
That tree is pretty freaking awesome!
lol, people know me well. You’re about the third person to have linked me to that crazy cat tree It’s pretty awesome.
Less than 48 hours!!!
Also I forgot to add this here. This is from our visit a week and a half ago. Who wants to take a vote, green eyes like his dad? Or yellow eyes like Jasiri? Time will tell
Oh gorgeous boy! The colour reminds me of some spices. I inevitibly end up looking at food-themed names.
The first spice I thought of was Cinnamon. Cassia is a common cinnamon avaliable. Can be a uni-sex name I think. In Swahili, it is Mdalasini (or Dalasini)
Curry is Binzari – haha, it would kinda rhyme with Jasiri lol
Ginger is Tangawizi
Or the colour of tea -Swahili is Chai (Chai also common name for spiced milk tea drink)
His colour also reminded as Ground Mace, which is a tan colour. But Mace can have some negative connotations. I did look into this spice more and discovered its made for the red outcasing of the nutmeg, known as Aril or Arillus. I like the word Arillus.
There are some names of spice mixes from around the world that could double as pet names. Harissa, Tandoori, Baharat, Marsala etc
Oh, another Swahili word I came across is Baraka, which means “Blessing”. There was a doco-film but this name over 20 years ago. A visual showcase of cultures of the world and history. I hadn’t realised this was a Swahili word.
lol, people know me well. You’re about the third person to have linked me to that crazy cat tree It’s pretty awesome.
I think it was doing the rounds on facebook.
Arillus is fantastic
Methinks I might have to get a tawny bunny one day so I can use that name. Haha. A castor mini rex. <3 Or a more red bunny like the Thriantas. Pretty sure we dont have that breed here. But there is might be some NZ reds about. Or the red satin buns…
I currently have an Ailís that sounds a bit too much like Arillus.
Lol, you’ve done more research than me, haha. Arillus is a cool name. And we do have Thrianta in Australia, I saw one earlier this year at a pet expo, so pretty.
I could never call him Tandoori, all that makes me think of is Tandoori chicken XD
He’s home!
So much love for the little guy already. He’s super affectionate. The name Kion is back on the table because he was basically screaming at me the entire hour drive home, and Kion has a magical power roar, the roar of the ancestors, lol.
Otherwise still tossing up Quill or Finnick as well. I was about to leave the room and spend time with Jasiri because he fell asleep, but then he woke up, saw me and crawled onto my lap. He’s adorable, purrs like a machine too.
Yay, welcome home! Sounds positively adorable ^_^
Finnick, Finnick, Finnick,….Finnick the Fox,….Foxy Finnick,….Firey Foxy Finnick,…hehe….pushing for Finnick…..could anyone guess?
Welcome home, beautiful boy!
So handsome!

Ok, fox in Arabic is a tad tricky to show how to pronounce phonetically… sthaa’labu
Lahab is flame
Bariq is used for Arabic and Urdu language names and can be brilliant, bright, glittering…
As per the October Chat thread, Mr Kitten is now officially named Jasper. While not on my shortlist, it’s something that popped into my head randomly and just seemed to be the right fit.
Thanks for all the suggestions.
I like names that spring to mind! Welcome Jasper! Jasper & Jasiri sounds very nice together.
AND here is your Lion King connection – Jasper is the name of the kid who played young SIMBA(!!) in the Australian production of The Lion King musical.
Big Welcome Gorgeous Jasper!!!!
I like the names of Jasper and Jasiri too. If I had a lot of kids I would probably be one of those weirdos who’s kid’s names all start with the same letter.
Stretching the connection a bit Jerseygirl but I’ll take it
Thanks LPT I can see it now… and these are my kids; Richard, Rachael, Robert, Rebecca, Rupert, Roger, and Rabbit
Lol….I think Rabbit might have a hard time at school…..
Important update about Jasper. In short, he is a she.
Long version: I took Jasper to the vet on friday for a check up as Jasiri has been very ill. The vet asked if I was sure he was a boy. He is not. There were 4 kittens in the litter, one boy and three girls. Two girls and the boy were desexed for pet homes and the third girl remained intact as she was going interstate to another breeder. When I went to pick Jasper up, the breeder made a mistake when she checked the gender and accidentally gave me the un-spayed female. We had her for a week and a half before the vet noticed the mistake.
Friday was very stressful as the breeder was pushing to swap the kittens and correct the mistake. I understand that and I understand the importance of specific breeding lines that she’s worked so hard towards, but hubby and I had bonded with Jasper, and I’d bonded her with Jasiri with great results and she’d been introduced to the rabbits and our parrot. I just couldn’t forget about that week and a half, and with Jasiri really ill I couldn’t put her through the stress of yet another new kitten. I feel terribly guilty but I pushed back and the breeder changed her mind.
That was two days ago, I still feel really horrid about it but it wasn’t my fault and obviously not something I could have foreseen happening. We’re exchanging the correct paperwork this week (desexing/ microchip/vaccination) so then it will all be sorted. I do feel bad, and I also wonder what sort of home the little boy will end up in, but little Jasperina (thanks Bam for that suggestion, lol) was such a perfect fit for our family, I couldn’t let that go and risk the other kitten not fitting in.
Jasper will be keeping her name, and we’ll have to get her spayed, probably mid November after her next vaccination.
Wow!…Crazy! It was obviously meant to be. Fate stepped in. I would be like you…what’s done is done.
She could be called “Foxy” for sure now…hehe
Azerane, I’m so sorry this happened, what a heartbreak. I was actually going to mention (jokingly) to make sure you get the right kitten when you go to pick him up, since they all look the same. I can’t believe the breeder made such a mistake. Looking at your pictures, I had been wondering why they weren’t wearing any collars to identify them, given that one female and your boy were already spoken for. Of course you would expect her to be able to identify the only male, at least. Well, you got a kitten that fits in with your fur family, that’s what’s most important.
I guess there’s no chance to get the little guy, too…?
Haha, I think she might have freaked if i wanted the little boy as well, lol. I wasn’t heartbroken to have a girl, momentary disappointment perhaps until I remembered how amazing she is. In some of the photos they have collars, the fluff can cover them at times. But you’re right, boy from girl should have been a no brainer. We seem to still be on good terms at least.
And just for the record, Jasper is amazing. She LOVES to cuddle, which I love. I frequently find myself trapped on the couch or in bed because she’s snuggling me. On Saturday we went to the vet for her vaccination, the vet couldn’t hear her heartbeat because of the purring, and then she just sat on my one arm and I petted her while the vet injected her. No wiggling and she didn’t have to be restrained, purred the whole time. She’s famous at the clinic now too, all the vet nurses were saying “ooh, is this the one that was meant to be a boy but is a girl?”
I can’t help but wonder what the little boy would have been like, and not that I subscribe much to fate or anything, but sometimes I wonder if the mistake was meant to be, she’s perfect
