Can you get fresh grass where you live? According to my vet (bunny savvy), fresh grass is as good as hay for grinding down molars. It’s a lot yummier than hay though, so picky buns that won’t eat enough hay will often devour fresh grass. My Bam is an example of that. It’s funny you shopuld say that about the noise, because when I started giving Bam lots of grass last fall, I heard a squeaky grinding sound when he chewed. (I so love listening to a munching bunny when I go to bed, it’s such a comforting sound). The squeaky grinding noised decreased and it’s not significant anymore. I recently read that buns recycle a good deal of calcium by chewing and swallowing what they grind off from their own molars, so the grinding is more powerful than we’d perhaps imagine.
As always, I recommend weekly weighing to keep track of weight fluctuations. It’s so difficult to spot gradual weight loss or -gain. There’s so much fluff and your eyes adapt to slow-ish changes in weight and simply don’t notice it.
