As some of you know Flakie went over the rainbow bridge in January at nearly 10 years old. My heart was broken and I cried for weeks.

I decided I wanted to adopt bunnies this time from a rescue centre near Glasgow (about 103 mile round trip) and give two bunnies a loving home with us.

So I have adopted Basil who is about 9 months old and Holly who is just over 5 months old. I think Basil has been there since a small baby bunny and was bullied by the other litter mates so had to be separated from them and has been in foster care alone since. I’ve only had them 6 days.

They are unbonded so I’m bonding them just now and after an initial fur pull and nipping it’s going okay I think anyway. Still separated but time together with us watching increasing and they are grooming each other, lying beside each other in the small pen and she fell asleep beside him brought tears to my eyes. here are pictures of them both basil is the cream bun and Holly the grey.

Im so sorry to hear about dear Flakie’s passing :'( , its always so sad and heartbreaking to hear of a crossing of the rainbow bridge.

Welcome to the forum, Basil and Holly! I must say, your names are so adorable! They match your pictures, so cuuute! <3

I wonder if Basil, likes the herb Basil lol! I have a bunny named Pumpkin, who very much enjoys canned Pumpkin puree.

First, my condolences on the loss of your bunny. I lost a beloved bun in February. It’s so hard.

But want to congratulate you on your beautiful new additions!

Thanks little puffy tail like you I still miss my bun it’s very hard. My two new additions are helping me through it all and I love them dearly already.

Bonding going extremely well spent their first night together and all went well so far!

Holly the grey bun is just a little darling so loving climbing on my head and giving lots of nose butts. Basil is very shy not had a lot of human contact and was bullied by litter mates so not a great start for him but with a lovely new wife bunny and our help he will come out of his shell. I see it happening already.

Thanks onyx moon I tried Basil with some basil and he loved it so did Holly ! Never tried pumpkin though. They eat all their greens and nuggets and are good hay eaters too.

Well congratulations Flakie! Kept wondering when we were going to see the pics of the “wee” little buns.

And congratulations on the apparently easy bonding process…lucky, lucky.

And welcome little Basil and Holly! Wishing you all great, warm, snuggly moments and memories with lots of binkys thrown in for years to come!

Thanks longeared lions and Gordo and Janice.

The wee buns are fab. Holly the grey (yes I’ve been watching lord of the rings Gandalf the grey) is a hungry wee bunny always wanting food to the extent of pinching it from Basils mouth the little monkey. He doesn’t nip her just pushes her out the way with his nose. They have been together now for three nights and going well hopefully nearly fully bonded.

I have registered them with a different vet who specialise in rabbits the Dick vets part of Edinburgh university as I feel that Flakie didn’t get the best in his last hours despite being at the vet not long before he died. I have learned a lot from having Flakie and Poppy and things improve year after year in vet medicine and understanding of rabbit welfare and hopefully Holly and Basil will have a good long life too ?

I’m happy for you that you have buns in your life again . Basil is so handsome! Holly definitely looks like the more adventurous one, getting ready to jump off her box. And of course Flakie knows you still love him and that you keep him in your heart and thoughts.

Thanks Luna. I’m happy having new bunnies missed looking after my Flakie and Poppy.

Basil is very handsome and Holly the cheeky one but so so cute with it. I still think about Flake a lot as he was a grey speck and Holly is pure grey and he was always the adventurous one !

Basil is getting less shy by the day with us and coming over for pats , nose rubs etc .

So glad I adopted them and will love and care for them in sickness and in health x
