Hi there! I’m Emma and I’ve joined this bunny community because I feel like I’ve gone too long without being able to speak to bunny-minded people. I don’t have any friends with bunnies and so would love to speak to people here.
I’ve had two bunny’s. My first was Pancakes, who I like to say was a very camp, docile, and mushy soul. He was honestly a saint, and passed when we was only 5 due to an unexpected infection.
My current bunny and absolute love is called Porridge. She’s a white/tan butterfly lop and is 5 1/2 years old. She’s super sassy, and although people think she can be a bit mean…? She is actually full of so much love and when she trusts you, she’ll cuddle and kiss you all night. She’s definitely unique and very different to Pancakes. I wouldn’t change her for the world.
Unfortunately, Porridge is experiencing a lot of dental problems (abscess, abnormal tooth root etc.) and so if I can get any recommendations for good threads containing useful information I would be very grateful. I’ve been doing a lot of research and she’s had quite a lot of vet visits recently (including two operations) which weren’t entirely successful, so hoping to find help here
(she is fed extremely well [I’m ridiculously strict with her diet] and eats plenty of hay, I think her super squished cute face has just condemned her to these problems unfortunately).

She is a very sweet looking bun bun. I like that she is also a bit sassy/feisty.
I edited your post as the pics weren’t showing. I wasn’t able to rotate that 1st unless I saved it myself and did on a program on my laptop. So here it is.
Im sorry to hear you’ve been dealing with Dental problems with her. They can be challenging. Is it her incisors or molars that are affected?

Her teeth are actually really good (told by two vets) in terms of how worn down they are from eating hay. It’s a problem in her tooth root, as it has an arched shape in her jaw bone,that has caused the abscess.
She’s had an abscess removal last week, but they were unable to completely remove the tooth because of it’s weird shape and the fact she doesn’t react well to anaesthetic. So now I’m very concerned the abscess will grow back. She’s had the bottom of the tooth cut away so the bit that caused the abscess is now gone. I guess time will tell!
That’s good your bunny reacts so well to the dentals. Luckily, Porridge has too gone back to eating like her normal self
she stopped eating pellets prior to the op but now they’ve done some work she’s happily eating them again. -

It’s her molars that are affected, one molar in particular is causing the problem. I’ve been shown the x-ray and it has grown in such a weird angle into her jaw that even though the top is wobbly, its impossible to remove the whole thing as it’s really welded into her bone.
I trust my vets but wondering whether it’s a matter of experience of how successfully the vet can remove the tooth? But I think it seems any vet would struggle to remove it from the x-rays I’ve seen.
I think maybe letting the wound heal up would be best (it’s currently an open wound I’m cleaning and filling with manuka honey), and seeing in the future what the best course of action would be?
