  I recently got my bun Penelope spayed (just this past Tuesday), and I’m worried that the site is opening back up. There’s no active bleeding, but there is some discoloration. I plan on call the vet office in the morning but I though I’d post here(I attached a picture below). She didn’t take to the surgery too well, and refused to eat for about two days afterward (I had to start force feeding, and she finally started to pick back up on her eating today) so I’m worried that she’s pulling at it.

  Im sorry she was doing it tough after the surgery. Is she still acting better now?

  Thanks for letting me know! I reattached it. And she’s doing better, she’s always been easy to stress so I was worried about how she’d take the surgery. Unfortunately she has an open outdoor pen and has had a few wild bun visitors lately and I didn’t want to take the chance of having a litter on my hands.

  Personally, I think it looks great! Im actually surprised her incision looks this good having only been recently spayed. Do email the photo to the clinic for their opinion. Is it the area on RH side of photo where the skin is a bit crimped that has you concerned? I don’t think that’s abnormal. I seem to remember seeing that when I had girls desexed but it has been a few years now!

  Yes that right side, I figured I was being overly cautious but I’ll email the picture to the clinic. Just figured I could post it here to see if anyone’s ever seen it before! Thank you!

  Her scar just looks so small! The only one I remember seeing that small was my friends rabbit that I took to be spayed and looked after. She was a wild rabbit and her scar was so small in comparison to when I had my girls done.
  I also looked after another friends rabbit when she licked her scar until it started to open. I’ll try find the pics (they’re not gruesome) She was put on antibiotic as a precaution and it was just a matter of keeping an eye on it until the skin knitted back up.
  btw, I had these rabbits in my care because both owners wanted a vet that was closer to where I live perform the spays. And one owner doesn’t drive also.
  
  ETA: Mmm.. I don’t think I will be able to find those photos given it was over 5 years ago. I do remember that Jersey (my first rabbit) had a slight opening at one end of her incision and I could see the blue stitching material. Even then, when I rang and asked about it, they were not concerned. It healed up okay.

  Yes, they did! They said since there’s no active bleeding or blood around the site it’s probably stretching out a bit since she’s becoming more active and I should just keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn’t open up any further. I’ve just had Penelope since she was a kit (she’s 3 now), so I’m bad at being overly protective of her.
