my son asked me to get him a bunny, been asking i should say.
i was reluctant but i have been wanting a “californian” for a while. well i didnt get a californian, but i’m glad. these two needed to be in my home <3
on easter we went to “see” the buns, of course i left with Bunny Cash, i believe he was about 9 weeks old
about a month later, i had been doing crazy research on buns and didn’t realize just how “cool” they could be. so we went back and got Shadow because i didnt want Bun to be lonely, i believe he was about 9 weeks or so, so they are about 1 month apart in age, i do have a 17 yr old cat but she chooses not to really interact with the buns. she sits on the floor but if they get to close she lets them know she’s not interested. *she has never clawed or bit them just swats
bunn bunn cash has a sweet personality, he’s also a brat and a little nutty.
they have a large area they live in and i let them out most days to roam free throughout the house.
well recently i got a new couch annnnnd they put holes in it the same day i got it, since them they have not been allowed in the living room but they still have plenty of room and my son takes them out and watches them so they can run free too.
Welcome to you, Bunny Cash and Shadow!! I almost didn’t spot Shadow in the first photo. A fitting name for him! So sweet how they lie together like that. Hopefully bunny puberty won’t upset their friendship too much. Finger crossed!
I just wanted to let you know I had to make some edits to your post and added the photos in for you. I did so in your other thread also. The photo files were uploaded fine, there is just one final step needed to get them to appear in your post. Click on the Insert Image icon next to the file name once that is uploaded as an attachment.
The other editing was more complicated. Are you posting from a smartphone or tablet? If so, does it have a grammar setting that can be turned on or off??
We are seeing a few post come through lately with strings of code that make the text difficult to read. Im assuming it’s a “smart” feature on some devices. To give you an idea, this is how the post looked before I edited out the strings of code.

I’d love if you could tell me if there is a grammar feature of some sort then we might know why some posts are appearing like this. Some are not too bad, but this one was riddled with code. Fussy devices that don’t like the casual way we write..
Sorry for all the off topic talk – back to your gorgeous bunnies! What age are they now?
Thank you! yes this is why he is a good shadow LOL. I hope not they are very good together, bunny cash did try to hump him the first day or so he was here lol, i looked it up and was told it was harmless, he just asserting himself as the king he is around here. they are both boys.
they are 3 and 4 months, shadow being 3. i will post more pics. i will have to resize them all.
Oh my, that looks horrible, I uploaded everything from my computer. I did take the pics with my phone but i emailed them to myself and saved them to my computer. I will look at the settings on my camera however.
the typing i did all on my computer and without formatting. only put a smiley or two. so i’m not sure what happened there.
If they are 3 and 4 months old, you will have to separate them, as they are or will soon be entering puberty. The hormones that come with puberty can cause aggression and that can lead to fighting. Rabbits can severely injure each other if they fight, and they can also hold grudges if they fight, which can make future bonding difficult. They will have to be housed separately and let out for play and exercise separately until they can have their neuter surgeries and recuperation period. There is also a risk that one is a female, instead of having two males like you think. It’s happened fairly frequently that pet store employees or even breeders have told people that rabbits were one gender, but they were wrong. That’s how people end up with unexpected litters, even having 2 litters if they didn’t realize a rabbit was pregnant and she was still with the male after having the first litter.
After they have both been neutered and about a month has passed, you can start the bonding procedure. Even though they have been together as very young bunnies, you still need to go through the bonding process.
Bunny Cash and Shadow are cute!
awe, that makes me sad. thank you so much for the info.
I have separate cages I can put them in. they get very anxious and upset when I do separate them now though.
the vet I was talking to said I would not have to neuter them, it’s not a necessary procedure if you have two boys. since they obviously can’t get each other pregnant
I will ask more questions when I go back to the vet, I choose someone who has rabbit experience but I will get a second opinion
ok I will do more research on bonding them. I appreciate all info I get! thank you
thank you I love them to death, I really never realized just how social they really are
FYI – i found out what was doing all that code…
i have an add on in chrome called Grammerly, i just turned it off for this site.
it was trying to correct my poor grammar and messing up the posts!
lol thought i would share the issue, in case you see it again maybe you can inform the person that might be it.
spell checker check!
They’re so cute! Aha, I understand the name choice now for Shadow lol. Adorable pic .

thank you!! lol i wasn’t sure about the name until i saw him do that.
i see you have a dark bunny in your pic, floppy ears so cute. i’ll have to post more pics, shadow has some big ol ears
I’m surprised a vet told you that your bunnies didn’t need to be neutered. It sounds like he or she may not be very rabbit savvy. Rabbits can actually fight viciously if they are not neutered. They can be fine together one day, then suddenly war breaks out. You can keep them in the same room, they will just need to be kept physically apart.
Here are 2 good articles on bonding:

she told me that because they had been together they were less likely to be aggressive. especially since they are the only bunz no females in the house. they told me it was good i got them young and they have plenty of room so that they can get used to the house and bond with each other.
now i’m kind of anxious about it, this is the first i have heard or even read about fighting buns, i mean i read that if you have more than one male and a female that aren’t spayed/neutered.
that was one of my first questions to the lady at the feed store (who everyone said talk to because she knows) and the vet and even the vet nurse? like the person who checked me in, i asked about health risks and dominance issues. i am not new to animals but new to bunnies so i was trying to ask as many questions as possible.
i got the second bun based on what i was told.
thank you for the info
ok thank you i will read those, according to the other articles i have read, it says bonding buns is super easy when you get them as babies, so i made sure i got them when they were just over 8 weeks. about a month appart but still very small when i got them.
this has to me so worried right now, if i separate them they go crazy and i’m always afraid they will hurt themselves cuz they try to tear everything in between them apart.
Unfortunately there is a lot of wrong information out there! Sorry you had bad advice from the vet and feed store lady.
On the other hand, I’m happy you are discovering the joys of bunnies! It really is better to separate and get them neutered. Many rabbits may co-habitate for a while, but with hormones you never know when a fight could break out, and ruin their bond forever! At 3 months they could be neutered now if testes have dropped, so will not have to be separated for too long (most advise separating for at least a month after the neuter for hormones to die down). There are several health benefits to neutering, but the main benefit will be behavioral! De-sexed rabbits are much calmer and easier to litter train
It may be hard to separate for a while but it will be much better for all involved in the long run!
They are so adorable. I love the name Shadow!

Thanks so much! That is really useful to know. Re the photos, there was no issue with those and code etc.

ok thank you, i will consult a different vet. i even chose that one based on the dr knowing rabbits.
i’m so worried now it affected my sleep last night because i was listening to my buns, if i separate them now though they go crazy. like try to dig at the cages to get back together and i dont want them to hurt themselves.
i am loving having them and certainly want to do my best.
love the bunny in your avatar! so cute
hopefully they can both be neutered now, thanks again!
Hope you’re not too stressed by all this! Feel free to ask any questions here on the forums, everyone is very helpful
