Our first bun, Chelsey, who was rescued by the RSPCA from living in a garage, surrounded by umpteen ferrets and cats, just loved being out in the wind and rain.
She always had shelter when outside, and always chose to be out in the wind and rain. She also always stood so the wind blew her fur the wrong way, which is how we found she loved being stroked the wrong way!

You’ve heard of the expression ‘living in clover’? She definitely did once we adopted her, and here she is, showing where the expression came from

I looove cows. Sort of grew up with Fresian milk cows. Nothing like getting them to suck on your fingers and then dunking their nose in a bucket of milk just as they are weaned when they don’t yet understand that their milk will now come from a bucket. Different sucking technique required. (So they suck on your fingers (no milk), then by dunking they still suck on fingers but get milk (yay!).)

I was going to share some piccies of baby buns… I looked after 5 rabbits at my dads college and one doe had an accidental litter (they’re not to wise with bunnies) but as it’s not allowed, click on the photos to go to my photobucket to see a few piccies of them. I’ll share some of the male bun, I named him Rafiki after the baboon in the lion king but apparently his name is fluffy… I was not going to stick to that name. He’s not neutered, none of them are, hoping they’ve had their vaccs now… I did try and give advice but they’re quite set in their ways.

Added the last one to show how much he sprays, he’s around un-neutered does (they’re living across from him). Difficult situation and I do feel sorry for them, I’d take them if they let me!

Blue Moon, your cows are adorable! You must have your hands full with rabbits, cows, chickens…anything else?  My mum’s neighbour has a lot of animals. She has around 9 cats, 2 bunnies, 2 rats and a dog. She used to have chickens too.

I came for the rabbits but I’m staying for the cows and roosters! Gorgeous.
And Boston and Oakley look like stuffed animals come to life.

Pippins was being so cute a few days ago so I had to get some pics, my camera is terrible however:

I made a box staircase so Reese can jump on my bed! I’m glad I did because last night (or morning, around 4:00) she jumped up onto my bed and she rested her nose on my nose for a whole minute, trying to wake me up with her tickle whiskers, not knowing I was already awake! She was so cute and begged for pets. I am also thinking of taking the stairs down because I looked on my bed a couple minutes ago and there was a pee spot! All her poops were in her litter box, but she just pees on my bed for some reason. Does anyone know how I can stop this so I can cuddle with her without her peeing on my bed?

ReeseBun – A booplesnoot cuddle, so cute! Reese might be peeing on the bed because it’s a new “territory” for her since she hasn’t been able to get on your bed until now, or it could be the softness of the bed sheets/blankets…or maybe just an innocent mistake ? I don’t know if letting her on your bed more will help or make it worse. If she peed on the bed when you weren’t on it, I would try putting the stairs by the bed so that she can only jump on the bed when you are on it, and hopefully your presence will deter her from peeing right then and there.

Luna, thanks for the help! I took the stairs away while I was gone, and when I came back I put the stairs back. She jumped right up and was being cuddly, but when I was petting her, she decided to hop to the corner of the bed and pee right in front of me right on my phone charger cord! What a bun!

Oh geez lol – sweet little Reese . Well maybe you could put a thicker fleece on top of your bed covers so that if she wees on the bed again, at least the fleece might stop most or all of the pee from getting on your bed sheets?

I asked my husband if he was worried about not having the extra space in the lounge room after I moved Dory’s cage out. He didn’t respond but got up and walked into the lounge to see this

Do excuse the mess, while I’ve been changing their tray, I haven’t swept the stray hay for 3 days (lazy).

Expanded bunny playpen The desk was getting moved next to the condo anyway, so I figured it would be nice to be able to sit there and use my laptop or do something arty while being able to hang out with the bunnies. Since I miss sitting on the couch and having Bandit hang out by my feet. I might need to get a little square rug for under the desk since they aren’t too keen on such a big space of slippery floor. But we’ll see how it goes They’ve gained a fair bit of running space.

lol, if you saw the rest of the house I’m not naturally tidy, lol. There’s plenty of room for a cat on the couch Not sure where the cat tree would go though, lol.

I had a thought that I could add storage onto the condo over where I have the plastic tubs. Just a couple of cube shelves, perhaps lined with coroplast to stop bunny hair and poop getting in. Then I could have a couple shelves for next to the desk to avoid clogging up the desk. Here’s a pic of what I mean. All the blue and green are the new additions to the condo, in the image the shelves are open at the front, but I’m considering having the opening where the green squares are so that they’re open from the side. I’m not sure which would be better/easier from the desk.

Adventures from my first 6 months or so as a bunny mom He gets more and more outgoing every day; he doesn’t even mind going out in public (as long as his carrier is full of his favorite hay ). Can’t wait until I have more time so I can bond Jake to a girlfriend.

Maybe!  This is an old phone pic of Rumball, though it made an appearance on BB facebook recently.   

So there is hope that they’d poke their heads out of a porthole that’s decked out with a wig.. They’d probably be too curious not to. 

Awe, Rumball! What a cute picture. I think it would be all about perfect timing. Have them enter the box on the other side and then be ready to snap when they get too curious and peek out. I love the wig idea.

Thus it begins….
A few weeks ago Breintjes face started to moult and he sported an awesome Lemmy stache. But then his moult suddenly stopped, until I noticed a tiny tuft of hair sticking out next to his tail. I put him on a safety mat on the table and gently started to pluck him. Appearantly he stopped moulting, and started again on his rear end??? 
This is what I harvested in just a few minutes, banana for scale:

Luna started molting and suddenly stopped too, which has never happened before . Lol, banana for scale. But how can I gauge how much fur there is, because what if the banana in the photo is smaller or larger than normal? 

Ahhhh Luna, don’t go there…. rofl. We’ve already been there with the banana scale…. so i changed it to a coke can scale (placed next to your bunny!!) !!!! Lolololol

Nowhere to be found in my house A banana will just have to do!
Breintje still looks as fuzzy as can be, so I fear that I’ll pluck several buckets of fur off him again this week. He hates the plucking itself, but afterwards he seems quite happy with the results.

Tony has perfected his flops. He looks like a cat, when I sent this pic to my sister she thought I’d adopted more animals!

Reese’s molt stopped right at her nose for a while, the nose hairs stick out much more in real life, it is hard to get the difference on camera. She looks so silly! Is anybun else stuck in their molt?

Yes, in fact we were talking about that earlier today! Breintje seemed to be stuck as well, and Luna was too I think.

Check Reese’s butt, maybe it’s this year’s worldwide bunny fashion to only moult a little in your face, then stop for a few weeks and start moulting on your butt.

That’s quite the moult! I’ve seen quite a few pics of bunnies where they seemed to have stopped shedding halfway and then they end up with funny fur patterns.

Progress on the buns’ condo. I’ve built the addition, I just need to remove the current roof and install the new one. I counted my cable ties and I believe I have just enough to finish it, although not enough to build my little side shelf Unless I use a different size, which I could do. I think I’m definitely going to have to add a support beam for the roof, not so much as a problem now that the roof will be much higher above the buns’ heads than it was before

I hope the welds are all the right way round young lady……
Super progress. I’ve put a horizontal beam right across the front 3 panels (external on top) so the front doesn’t sag down as the support overlaps by a couple of inches and rests on the cages that are fixed and dont flip up. Hard to explain let me know if you want a piccie.
havent put one lengthwise inside the condo yet as it would have to go towards the back. Not middle. Not symmetrical

Oh trust me, they’re all the same, lol. I probably would have had the right amount of cable ties if I’d left the ones I accidentally did the wrong way I ended up about 3 short, but left them off in non crucial areas so it’s not a big deal that I don’t have the extras right now.

I think I know what you mean about the support beam on top. I’m thinking I’ll get one for inside the condo, but going along the length of it, not front to back. I was considering a black aluminium tube rather than timber, just so it blends in more. Chew proof then too.

I removed my incorrect cable ties carefully with a knife end so I cld reuse them….. otherwise I wouldnt have had enough either….. !!!!!

ISNT he?  Everyone I sent that picture to said that the Easter bunny is terrifying! Jake didn’t mind him, though, he even ate a slice of dried carrot that I gave him to feed Jake.

Awww, little Boston is so cute!!

Here’s a pic of the upgraded bunny condo! For those unaware, I added an extra grid height on the top level. It’s not done yet, I want to add a platform in the upper level for them but will need to wait on getting some plywood for that. I also will be adding a couple of shelves on the outside, next to the desk, which I could build but I need corflute to line them. Vienna, I think I will be stealing your idea and putting a brace across the top at the front, it will probably mean that I won’t need to put clips there either which will be nice. Due to bills that are apparently more important than upgrading bunny condos, I may have to wait until the end of the month before I can buy the remaining bits and pieces to finish it how I want. Tell you what though, it’s huge. It’s like a great monolith in the lounge room now, lol.

Yayyy Az !! Looking good. Bizarrely familiar too !! LOL. I have been thinking about putting in an extra perching point over the hole as they dont use the shelf over on the extreme right (no carpet). But im afraid both will want to go up there at same time and normal grids wont hold 12kg in one go….

An experiment in physics perhaps? I was considering not using grids for my extra loft for them since I miscounted and I need them for my shelves outside the condo, lol. Originally I was thinking a 2×2 but it might be a bit restrictive for reaching in underneath it so I was considering more of a corner design going across 2 grids on the back and side and narrowing to one grid at the front. Some plywood and a couple of support beams and cable ties and it should work

1 wide should be big enough for “one’s”flop !! I’ll try later…..

Yes, I need mine 2 wide at the back though because the hole for the steps is 2 wide and I don’t want them falling off the ledge into the hole.

Just saw this DIY pigloo/fleece forest on a guinea pig forum by username missbounce. She bought the children’s step-stools at a local Tesco but I assume they could also be found for cheap at most dollar stores, Walmart, etc. Attached some fleece with velcro so she could remove the fabric to wash. So cute! I think it’s a fun idea for those who like igloos but worry about ventilation or them being too small for most of our buns.

I’m not surprised Oscar is feeling grumpy, he’s lost an ear !!!!

Oakley and Boston’s Mama: Thanks for the warning, I agree. If your rabbit is a chewer definitely be careful. Olaf loves his fleece forest but it’s always better to be safe than sorry. I also recommend only using this type of toy outside of their cage or hutch so you can monitor their use.

I’m taking a little break from BB as I’m currently swamped with other things on the go but I had a few free minutes and took the time to scroll through the last few pages. I miss seeing all these faces on a regular basis. And Jersey, you should be ashamed of yourself for making us go so long without TimTim pics!!!

This is what I have to deal with every night while I work on my crafts…..I have to stop working routinely to pet them both because they just stare at me and make me feel guilty. Real helpful guys…..

Everly spends most of her play time lately taking care of her stuffies (most of which are bunnies). Here this little guy is getting a haircut.  You can’t see in the pic, but the scissors are bunnies. 

We are just 5 days into our rabbit parenthood and we are in love with her.

Thank you, everyone, I rather like the outdoor results myself! I’ve resized the ones I took at the bunny barn and included is my foster to adopt, if my bunnies are open to it?

As far as I’ve found in research her Princess tiny bunny is a Brittania Petite and BB is a polish rabbit, which there seems to be a few varying sizes of? I went with the weight on the chart at 3.5 lbs and his stature and ear positioning.

Our new foster, who has not had the best life thus far, being part of a large seizure, having his ear ripped, languishing in a shelter for a long time and having Coccidia?    Dude looks familiar, will be picking him up this week I already met him but needed to wait for his treatment to be complete.

OBM: He just doesn’t want any more pets, and he’s not into bunnies all that much to begin with. I know he’s probably right, we have enough pets, but I would really love to get a bunny buddy for our boy! Lops are the hubby’s favorite, but I still can’t convince him.

Natrual Easter photos… went no treats and this is what happened! Guess Winter had a different image in mind than me. 

I had a very very long and crappy day today, but I can’t help but laugh at this… Tony’s neutering is tomorrow so I left out his carrier for him to get used to it before the trip. Turns out he must remember it from the last trip to the vet, because he tore it to shreds! He pulled the zip off as much as he could and tried to take off the handle too! Little brat. Luckily it zips all the way around and he only damaged the corners, so I’ve pinned and sewn up the broken zips so I can still use it tomorrow because I won’t be able to get a new one in time.

Hahaha, naughty little bunny! Nice try bud, but you’re still going to get snipped tomorrow

Adopted Terry yesterday (Ogg chose him). They got along really well yesterday so as soon as I got up this morning I opened the barrier between them again. Ogg ate Terry’s capsicum for him, then he groomed her. Terry also discovered if he jumps on Ogg’s box just right, he can get into my scrap fabric bin, then onto my study desk.

Just took this pic of Breintje munching on his bunny salad (courtesy of SpudPhone!). It has carrot tops, radish leaf, celery and basil. This pic reminds me a lot of the spaghetti scene from “Lady and the Tramp”

Bianca – Tell Terry “Anything but the vacuum nozzle!” I never thought I’d consider vacuum features so important until I got Luna.

Ellie – Lol. I feel like it’s going to end with the bowl getting knocked over .

Luna – I think I would rather him go for the vacuum nozzle than some other things! I’m hoping Ogg teaches him her no chewing habits and not the other way around – apart from my expensive rug (which is now secretly a dog and rabbit bed in my study, pretending to be a nice rug) she doesn’t chew anything. 

I wanted to share another photo. They have been sharing the rabbit area of the study all day without any issues (apart from Terry not grooming Ogg every time she demands, resulting in a super offended Ogg storming up to me for pats). I just chucked them some kale to share as a snack, but I separated it a bit just in case. Nope! They had to share! After that I gave them some carrot, and not only did they share that, Ogg insisted on eating from the same end as Terry, so they had to squish faces to manage.

Haven’t had many poos outside of the litter trays either, which is awesome! They have three to share – two for food and one for water because Ogg prefers to go where she drinks rather than where she eats for some odd reason. 

Looks like I will have to stock up on veg a lot more now too! I always have lots of hay – that’s the advantage of being a horse owner.  But Terry is a lot bigger than Ogg so I’m sure I will still go through a lot more veg too. Might start going to the markets on Sundays again.

Cutest thing ever:

My boyfriend gave Cynthia carrots for the first time (she wasn’t interested when I tried introducing them) and she did her first binky! lol She did three of them in a row after gobbling up the sweet treat 😛 <3

@Shiver_Rose: Awww, that’s so adorable ^_^ Best go easy on the carrots though, because they contain a lot of sugar which can offset your rabbit’s gut flora. To prevent digestive issues, best only give a small slice (max. 2 cm). Rabbits also adore carrot tops, Breintje gets them every day.

Tony is back from his spaying. Went well, but he’s been sitting perfectly still in his carrier since he got home. I think he’s still groggy and he’s refusing treats, although the vet said he did eat a bit of apple earlier. It’s breaking my heart looking at him in his little collar, waaaah.

Thor is beautiful! And Thor is definitely a great name, gender aside. I love the floppy ears. It’s great to see her so relaxed.

Bianca – very cute – hope it carries on that way between them.

Ellie – Lady and the Tramp? euh, no ! More like The Alien !! LOL -What a funny photo with the plate looking huuuuuge.

Opened the hutch to find these two beautiful faces watching me  (The writing is the bunnies new instagram, would appreciate if you could follow and I will follow back )

ThorBunny- The same thing happened to me! lol

The breeder I bought my rabbit from told me it was a buck so we went on thinking this for months and named it Jasper. I was terribly concerned with Jasper spraying all over my apartment so I took him to the vet twice to get him cleared for neutering. The first time I was told he wasn’t, in fact, old enough for the procedure (despite what I had heard from breeders and other seemingly reliable sources) and to come back at an age when he could be more accurately sexed. When he finally reached six months we took him back to the vet. It was on this interesting visit that we found out Jasper was actually a girl! The vet told me that he saw more of a vulva than anything else and that sometimes a vulva can be mistaken for male genitalia.

Thus, came the name Cynthia. It’s very interesting because I had initially wanted a female rabbit as well as a rabbit whose ears stood upright. I bought my rabbit because I couldn’t resist her adorable face, but contrary to what I had planned she was a “male” with floppy ears. As she matured her ears developed from flopping down to pointing upright and we found out that she was a female after all! lol Too funny 😛 I got more than one pleasant surprise.  (On top of this she already possessed all of the coloring I had wanted.)  It was meant to be.

Love the name Thor btw.

If you look closely, you will see a stuck rabbit. Terry managed to jump up there very, very awkwardly from under the aquarium stand. He had to dodgy the legs of the stand, a few power cords, and the cotton stand to do it. Good job Terry. 

The aquarium stand is now off limits because when Terry isn’t getting stuck behind my cotton stand he is trying to squish himself behind the drawers and he really doesn’t fit.

Ogg has just discovered the new barrier I put up. She is not happy. She loves it under the stand, and has never caused an issue. Gosh Terry! 

LOL! 

Poppy is tired of fishing out hay from those holes. Going straight to the source!

Yes TM I was going to ask the same question but Q8 got in there before me…
Henry was at the vets for 3 days observation as he had complications (well a SUPER enlarged sac odema)…. and he didn’t have a cone either.
tbh I didn’t think of asking for one either…. :blink;

Licorice also had complications with no cone. Do they do all rabbits with a cone there? I heard it can make it hard for them to eat?

It’s definitely making it hard for him to eat- I came home today and he’s not moved much from behind the couch, and there are cecotropes everywhere from him sitting in them, and all around the edge of the cone where he clearly tried to eat them I have had to leave huge piles of hay and veh and big deep bowls of water out to make sure he can get at it when I’m in work. I don’t know if it’s routine here, but they said it’s to stop him pulling out the stiches. He hates it, he can’t see properly or groom himself, it’s really hard to watch. He’s not moving much and I think it’s because he can’t see well with the cone, and also he doesn’t fit in a lot of his favourite places with it on. He has a check up appointment the day after tomorrow and I’m going to see if I can take it off him then because it’s making him miserable. Honestly I think he’s more stressed by the cone than he was the surgery.

Turns out Terry is a super floppy sleeper. As in, he throws himself on his back then rolls onto his side. In the first photo poor Ogg was lying there minding her own business when Terry flopped and forced himself under her face. 

I agree – definitely won bunny lottery here! After night 1 I haven’t even kept them separated. They live together all the time now, not a single issue (apart from Terry not always grooming Ogg as soon as she demands – in which case she will come to me instead!).

This foot is the one i’m most worried about, the skin has turned a sort of crusty yellow color.

Oomph! Jerry doesn’t look overly impressed. Lol. New way to weight train for him? :p

Reese, with the skin intact like that, you could try treating with just some cream. I use sudocreme on hocks sometimes, which is a nappy rash cream. You could try something like Bag Balm if that’s available.  There is also silver sulfadiazine cream which is reportedly very good for sore hocks, though I do not know if it is prescription only or not.

Tony’s mum, he looks miserable (but so incredibly cute miserable!) so I’d try taking off the cone. None of my boys got a cone. Most boys that try to chew their stitches haven’t had proper pain relief, but you said your vet prescribed pain meds, so I think it’d be safe take it off while you can monitor him. You could put it back on when you must leave him, perhaps, but I think he’ll be happier if he gets to eat his cecals and give himself a proper cleaning. 

Bianca, that’s so silly =D They do tend to like squeezing into narrow spaces though. We used to have a floor lamp like this one 

and Bam was always trying to crawl up into it, because he must’ve thought it was a tunnel

Thanks Jerseygirl! I will try to get some bag balm. Some websites also say to use a little bunny sock thing made from a piece of Vet bandages, should I put that on too so she does not lick the lotion off?

I took it off for a couple of hours earlier and he was MUCH happier (and I washed off all the dried in cecotropes and food :/), but I did see him licking his stitches so I put it back on when I went to work. Yet again I got back to a miserable little bun sitting in his own filth behind the couch. He can get to the hay and water ok, but it’s definitely making it hard for him to eat veg and pellets so I had to hand feed him his dinner when I got home after I cleaned everything up. He’s going to the vet for his checkup in the morning and I’m going to see if I can take it off because I really think it’s doing more harm than good, but I don’t want to risk him hurting himself either. I feel awful looking at him all miserable and trying to groom himself

@ReeseBun, try it without bandaging first. She might not even be aware there is anything to lick off. Or it’s soothing enough that she’ll leave it alone. I found the cream I used sort of trapped in the dry skin so it stayed on for a while. If that makes sense.

The vet bandages you mentioned might be Vet Wrap. It sticks to itself but not to skin or fur. You can get bandages for people made of the same stuff. I find that this page has lots of useful info. Had you seen this one? http://wabbitwiki.com/wiki/Sore_hocks
