Weird misconceptions…yes. Basically everything I was told about rabbits was wrong when I got my first bun. First misconception:
1. They’re naturally friendly and cuddly.
– No, not always. Especially if they’re unaltered and therefore hormonal and territorial. Also most rabbits don’t enjoy being picked up or held – they aren’t human babies.
2. They’re “easy” to care for
– Not really, especially with their extremely touchy GI tract. Also bunny-proofing an area isn’t an exact science.
3. They’re “cheap”
– yeah, maybe, if you plan on never altering them or bringing them to the vet…and if they never destroy anything in the house =) My last bunny easily cost me $2000+ in the 4 years I had her (between vet visits, food, hay, pee’d-on rugs, and chewed up electronics).
These are the top three misconceptions with rabbits in my opinion, being as they’re marketed as “the perfect starter pet” for children -_-
